Sex trafficking is a global problem that involves the exploitation and abuse of girls as well as women. This paper will discuss the problem, with an emphasis on the views expressed by Paola Monzini in her book Sex Traffic: Prostitution, Crime and Exploitation. The paper will look at the causes, consequences and prevalence rates of sex trafficking and will consider the impact of such factors as globalization and women’s poverty in perpetuating the problem or making it worse. The paper will conclude with a discussion of the ways in which a human rights perspective might translate into positive action to eliminate the trafficking of girls and women.

Concerns have been raised over the years in regards to the issue of human trafficking. Countless international groups such as charities have tried to increase public awareness around the issue of trafficking of human beings and at the same time have encouraged governmental bodies to acknowledge this problem that its affecting people around the world and which has increased dramatically over the past years (Newburn, 2013,pp.430-431). The trafficking of human beings has reached a global level, with thousands of men, women and children been abducted with the promise of a better quality of life.

Sex trafficking is a major problem in the world today and the only way to truly combat it is by raising awareness through the media. I say the media because it is the most effective tool to reach out to world’s largest audience. Although one person has the ability to change the world, it is not enough to change the process of sex trafficking. If everyone right now was able to view real, in depth information on sex trafficking, the problem would not go unnoticed. However, the thought would be out of people’s mind within a week because of some other news article, or video. I propose that we use the mass media to its full potential and rame through every aspect of social media and make the people uncomfortable. By doing this, I believe that it would be a more effective way to to keep the thought of sex trafficking linger in one’s brain enough for them to want to help change the problem.

In continuation, about 21.5 percent of trafficking is sexual exploitation, 67.9 percent is forced labour, and 10.5 percent is state imposed forced labour.

From July 4, 1776, the United States has always prided itself on the copious freedoms granted to its citizens. Freedom of speech, the press, and to bear arms are just a small testament to how well the U.S. has maintained its liberties for over two centuries. Noted internationally as a socially progressive nation that sets unmarked precedents in breaking social barriers and razing oppression, the U.S. unfortunately falls short in protecting ones right to rule over their own body. Prostitution, the exchanging of sexual services for payment, has been specifically outlawed by the State of New York. This direct targeting of the sex trade within New York leaves many people unprotected under the law, both in consensual prostitution and nonconsensual human sex trafficking, while greatly eliminating the potential tax revenue that would be generated. Prostitution, when involving consenting adults, is a victimless crime and when criminalized, it forces a specific set of morals on everyone within that jurisdiction no matter of their personal beliefs.

The innocence of a child is a cherished value held in the heart of all children. All children deserve the purest of education and care, completely free of coercion and threat. Through the twisted criminal act of human trafficking, innocent children are placed into a modern day act of slavery. Though the thought of enslaving children is shocking, the issue of human sex trafficking is still well alive and rising in the United States. In efforts to raise awareness and inform the public of this heinous act, it is important to identify the issue of human sex trafficking, capture the johns while raising awareness, and to provide rehabilitation for the victims.

A challenge that I took interest in is the horrifying problem that women and young girls face as victims of human trafficking and sex slavery. Women and young girls make up 98% of victims of trafficking for exploitation. Human trafficking and sex slavery is a form of modern slavery, in which traffickers profit from the control and exploitation of others. It is a multi-billion industry. Traffickers use control of others for the purpose of engaging in sexual activities and or forcing others to provide labor services against their will. Traffickers use many manipulative tactics to trap their victims in horrific situations such as using violence, threats, deception, and bondage.

I wrote my paper about sex trafficking and labor trafficking. It is a big problem in the United States and other countries around the world. This is an issue you have to be aware of in your every day life, and you do not need to be naive about the things that happen in this world. People need to know these facts to keep them aware and safe. Women and children are the biggest victims of this crime, and are lured the easiest. The offenders can be working alone or in groups or “companies”, and scout out people.

The participants for this sample will consist of all genders who have a strong idea in prostitution, and sex trafficking. The participants will all consent to a contract to show that they are over the age of 18 given the explicit context of the sincerity of the research, and adhere to the regulations, and policies that will follow. Next, a focused group will be used with all genders to see how each gender is conflicted with the topic at hand. However, to get a better understanding of all participants especially children within this study I will ask parents if they have ever seen children be bought, and sold in sex work.
