Italy Is The Poster Child For Anti Terrorism

Located in Southern Europe, Italy is a peninsula that extends into the Mediterranean Sea. Italy borders four countries, France to the west, Switzerland and Austria to the north, and Slovenia to the east. Italy is known for its many attractions, including the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the Vatican, and the Colosseum. Considering these attractions, and it’s location, Italy’s ability to avoid the threat that is the Isis extremist group has other countries taking notes.
The Italian government has succeeded thus far when it comes to not only preventing and countering terrorism, but avoiding it as well with solutions that haven’t been anything too extraordinary. Whether they’ve just lucked out, or their practices and procedures are responsible, Italy is the poster child for anti terrorism. One of it’s own universities, The International University School of Rome and Florence, even offers counterterrorism and hostage negotiation training to various governments around the world.
With Isis constantly looming, and its threats and attacks throughout the world, it is shocking that Italy has yet to have a death caused by Muslim terrorism. Throughout the past 5 years, the Civil War in Syria has caused refugees to flea to many nearby counties. Italy’s Muslim population tops out at over two million, and a million of those fled to Italy since February of this year alone. This influx of people didn’t come without caution.
