It’s hard to believe that a war that claims nine to ten million lives leaves another twenty million wounded and the most powerful countries in the world at each other’s necks, also sparking off revolutions and 4 years of the most brutal war conditions and tactics the world had seen. There was no hiding from poison gas, the only escape you had from it was if you were lucky enough to retrieve and put your gas mask on in time.
