SWOT ANALYSIS Strength: • Alliance and Joint Venture Alliance and Join Venture play important roles in its operation. In 2000, it acquired the Lloyds pub chain consisting 10 pubs. Since then, it has developed the Lloyds Number One brand and greatly increased the number of outlets. These bars have much stronger entertainment element. • Covering wide area of industry JD has begun developing budget hotel accommodation known as ‘Wetherlodges’, a development which began when it acquired premises with rooms in the late 1990s. It now has more than ten of these hotels, all of which have bar facilities attached to them. Weakness: • Decreasing profitability With the increase of competitors and substitutes, sales and profit growth in JD have slowed down. The share price is also declining. • Weak marketing skills. In 2004, it removed price incentives to drink larger measures of spirits and reduced the amount of alcohol in its cocktail pitchers. This has had an adverse effect on the sales of spirits and cocktails. This is due to the weak marketing skills in the company. Opportunities: • Expanding product lines The pubs in JD mainly serve beverages and food. More food categories and beverages can be developed. The customers will have more selects which result the increase of profits. • Taking market share
