J. K. Rowling is the author of the best-selling Harry Potter series. As Bruno Bettelheim says, “If we hope to live not just moment to moment, but in true consciousness of our existence, then our greatest need and most difficult achievement is to find meaning in our lives” (Bettelheim 2). ”when children are young, it is literature that carries such information best” (Bettelheim 4). In literary circles, mention of Rowling or her work is likely to raise some tempers. K. Rowling is well-known for her books telling the adventures of a young wizard named Harry Potter who attends Hogwart’s School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Her first novel was published in England in 1997 as Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and audiences in the United States waited almost a year for the book to come out in America as Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Rowling was born July 31, 1965 in Chipping Sodbury, and she showed a proficiency with story-telling at a young age. She attended Wyedean Comprehensive for secondary school. She studied French and the classics in college at Exeter University, and upon her graduation, she moved to London to work as a researcher and secretary. While there, she started work on Harry Potter, although it took her several years to actually complete it. Rowling moved to Portugal in the early 1990s to teach English. She met Jorges Arantes, a Portuguese journalist, and married him on October 16, 1992. Rowling had a daughter with Arantes, and in late 1994, she moved back to the United Kingdom with her and settled in Edinburg. Shortly after, the couple divorced. On December 26, 2001, she married her current husband, Dr. Neil Murray. The couple has two children, and the four of them live in Scotland along with Rowling’s daughter from her first marriage (“J.
