You’d be hard pressed to find one in a crowd. The average serial killer generally blends in with everyone else (Directory Journal, 2010). In fact, most are soft-spoken and even polite. Their monstrous nature only comes through when you dig deeper into their personalities, actions, and habits. Most seem to have come from dysfunctional family settings and were emotionally, sexually, or even verbally abused as children (Directory Journal, 2010). It is almost as if this background activates some psychological trigger that increases their feelings of inadequacy or worthlessness that led them to seek out their own heinous form of release.

Donald Gaskins Donald Gaskins was a concession to murdering people from 1969 to 1989. Before Gaskins was born his mom was young and a poor girl who had to quit school at the age of 12 years old to help her family pick cotton and plant tobacco. His moms name is Molly. She had intercourse with the well-known neighbor who paid her a dollar several times a week. Then she ended up getting pregnant at the age of 14 years old with Donald.

Jeffrey Dahmer was a notorious serial killer in the late 70’s throughout the early 90’s. What made him stand out from most serial killer’s was what he did to the bodies of his victims. During this research paper, I will cover his childhood life, what led to his lifestyle of killing and cannibalism and also the crimes that were committed during his murderous acts. I will also compare what theories relate to Jeffrey Dohmer and what could possibly be the reason why he did what he did.

If someone ever met Andrew Urdiales he would be the type that one would forget. He is not very outgoing and would keep to himself, during his childhood he did not have many friends and was an average student. Urdiales was a marine stationed in Southern California when he committed his first murder killing Robbin Brandley a twenty-three year old college student. From July 1988 to August 1996 Urdiales would go on to kill seven more women. Most serial killers kill each victim similar to all the other victims, Urdiales was different though his first murder he stabbed the victim to death while his last he shot in the head.

Throughout American history, numerous acts of crime have been committed by serial killers that ultimately shocked the nation. A serial killer is defined as “someone who murders more than three victims one at a time in a relatively short interval (Serial).” One particular person who is considered one of the most infamous serial killers on earth is Jeffrey Dahmer. The Jeffrey Dahmer case had a significant impact on not only society but on the criminal justice system as well.

Annie Chapman was the second of the five main victims she was murdered on September 8th 1888(www.jack the ripper.org). The third and fourth victims shared the same day of death with a peculiar twist. Jack the Ripper was known to deface and mutilate all the bodies in which he slayed, Elizabeth Stride the third victim was wholly intact(www.bbc.co.uk/history). Both Elizabeth Stride and Catherine Eddowes died on the same day September 30th 1888(www.jack the ripper.org). The final victim to be famously associated with the case of Jack the Ripper was Mary Kelly who was killed on November 9th 1888. All of the victims were more than likely unaware of their fates beforehand, he typically knocked them out before he would kill and maim them. Jack the Ripper's scenes in which he left the corpses were calculated, he was informed and educated on how it is he done what he did. It was believed at the time that he was potentially a doctor or a butcher due to the tools needed to do what was done to the bodies. Not only that, but because of his murders, criminology had to evolve which would help tremendously in the future when more crime came about (due to the industrialization and lack of wages).
