When we think of college we think of life changing experiences, studying, meeting new people, going out, and, of course, sports. College athletics has become a huge part of college life. The joy of seeing your college team out on the field brings complete happiness to your eyes. Although someone may not be a fan of sports, they still love sharing the excitement with their peers. The place that brings all of the fans together is, Jack Trice Stadium. Jack Trice Stadium was built in 1975 (“Try Trice”) and it is one of the many important things that make up Iowa State University. There is a lot of history behind Jack Trice Stadium and it is apart of the Land-Grant Tradition.
Jack Trice Stadium has not been always called Jack Trice Stadium; it

Originally, the capacity of the stadium was 42,500. Bleachers were made in 1976 in the end zones to make the capacity more than 46,000. In 2002, the video board and scoreboard were installed. Also, permanent lighting was added to the side of the stadium costing about $500,000. Since the addition of the lights, Iowa State has played twice as much home night games than they did in the last 30 years. From 2007-2009 Jack Trice Stadium received its largest renovation ever. Jack Trice stadium added new suites, a new wider concourse with new concessions and bathrooms on the east and west sides of the stadium. Also, there was an addition of upgraded disability seating, new fencing and gates, and a new plaza new the main entrance. Richard O. “Dick” Jacobson donated $5 million to Iowa State athletics in 2008, for the purpose to continue renovating the stadium and there will be a Jacobson Plaza constructed near the main entrance of the stadium in Jacobson’s honor. The donation of $5 million was the largest donation ever made to Iowa State University’s athletics (Jack Trice Stadium, Wikipedia). The most recent renovation occurred in 2011, when the big video scoreboard on the north side of the field was installed. The video board measures out to be about 36 feet high and 79.5 feed wide (cyclones.com). As an Iowa State student, I enjoy going to the games and supporting my school and team. The games are what I look forward to every weekend. There is a common characteristic of the love for Iowa State and Iowa State’s athletic teams in the stadium. The excitement from all the students and other Iowa State fans brings joy to my eyes. My favorite part of the football games is when all the fans in the student section are standing on the bleachers and cheering together and supporting our team. Although our football may not be very good, we still go to the all games and see our football players do the best they can and bring a win for Iowa State University. Everyone enjoys when the fight song plays and when we sing all the common cheers all together. The stadium gets so loud when there is an exciting play that happens in the game. When there is a touchdown for Iowa State the stadium gets so loud that I can’t even hear myself think and I enjoy the commotion from everyone where we all go around and high-five the people around us. With so many fans, the stadium must have a good size to hold all the cheering fans in one place. Because of so many fans, the stadium is the sixth largest stadium in the Big 12 Conference (by capacity) and the third newest in the conference. The record for most attendees to a single-game was against Kansas State with an attendance 56,800 people
Since I was a child, I’ve been an NC State fan. Going to the women’s basketball games, men’s basketball games, and football most Saturdays was a family affair. Sometimes, I even think my first words were “Go pack!”. I had a little cheerleader outfit, sat sideline at the basketballs games and thought my calling was to be an NC State cheerleader at 5 years old. In middle school, I went to NC State basketball and volleyball camps. This love of NC State was one that united my whole family and brought us together during our busy schedules.
The growing interest and boom in popularity in the sport was obvious, in fact the change was so quick and the colleges, with their old-school style stadiums meant for crowds who, only a few years ago, would have been in much smaller proportions, were run over with the amount of people that came in to watch their games. In 1922, it was estimated that 500,000 people were turned down from buying tickets simply due to the lack of space. The total number of fans themselves was growing rapidly as the number grew, in fact in one year alone the total number of fans went from 10 million in 1924 to 12 million in 1925. Because of this school directors and boards of committees saw the major economic implications ahead of them and decided that in order to maximize profits they should simply build bigger stadiums, which they did. Yale was one of the first to see the coming boom and quickly raised its capacity from 50,000 in 1903 to 78,000 by 1914. With the amount of fans growing unproportionately to the growing sizes of the stadiums growing so rapidly talks of a 165,000
I like having cheerleaders and music at the game, it helps to keep me engaged. Most of the seats
The first goal is to generate at least one sold-out basketball and football game each year (Fried, et al, 2013 p. 349). Goofy Field is home to the football team
The least successful facility is Eastern Michigan’s Rynearson Stadium. According to the NCAA they have averaged less than 7,500 fans per game over the last couple of years. This is due to the poor performance of the team. The most successful football stadium is Northern Illinois Huskie Stadium. They are number one in the MAC for attendance. They had around a total of 1 million fans attend their games over the last eight years. This is due to there team’s success. From 2010-2013 they went 34-8 (Daley, 2013. I noticed when looking this up that winning is one of the most important parts of having a successful
Dad and I get talking about what we will see at the game and we get really excited. This will be my first college football game and I really want to go and visit the campus. The golden dome, grotto, touchdown Jesus, and the coach statutes are some of the things we will see.
It is almost, or already has, turned into just one big business. Where one college or university is just competing with one another to see who could have the nicer things. Now a days, they are always building new dorms, dining halls, sports facilities, and academic halls. For example, according to Aaron Brenner, Clemson university has reportedly spent 128 million dollars on their sports facilities in the past year. They spent over 60 million ($63.5 million to be exact) on just renovating their basketball arena. Why would they spent that much money on their basketball arena? The simple answer is to make money you have to spend money. University spend money on these type things to simply try and make more money for themselves. The fact is college sports is a big income booster for most colleges. The question that comes up a lot though is, how are the universities paying for these
Overall I just love everything about University of Iowa wrestling and football experience. I couldn’t imagine cheering for any other team because I always cheer for the winning team. Iowa has come a long way in the years and I couldn’t be more proud to say I was alive for some of the best moments in Iowa history. Especially last football season a perfect 12-0 record and a trip to the big ten football championship along with a trip to the rose bowl. I'm not really sure what could be better. Everyday is a great day to be a Hawkeye, go hawks!
The next factor involved in attending a sporting event is the overall atmosphere which to me is always the best at a college sporting event. While controversial, the Kansas State vs. Kansas game is notorious for a certain chant when the game rolls into Manhattan. Typically, towards the end of the second half of the game the song Sandstorm by Darude is played and a chant of “F*ck KU” rings out from the Kansas State student section. As I have many friends that go to school at K-State this chant is something all the students look forward to as I have even personally heard the chant at football games. While not respectful and flat out wrong, this chant is something that I consider a part of the rivalry. Some may have a very different view on this, but I believe things could be much
Three different levels classify the seating in the Assembly hall. The first level is floor seating, the second level seating is about the first 30 rows, and while the last and last highest level are rows 40 going back towards the top of the structure. I think that the idea behind the seating structure was to create the most possible seats for fans. There are over 16,000 seats at Assembly Hall. There were ushers at the opening of each seating sections that were labeled by numbers. The usher directed me towards my seat without me asking which were only a few rows before top row of is seats in the building. It was easy gaining access due to the labeling of the rows and seat numbers on the side of the stairs as you walk up them. Towards the end of the game I conversed with an usher. She was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable of other areas of the arena. She stated that she had been working at Assembly hall for years and really enjoys helping people. The seats were not that
The resurgence of Temple University’s football program has lead the school wanting a $126 million, 35,000-seat stadium in the heart of North Philadelphia. The surrounding community outcry, skeptical legislators and a summer leadership crisis forced Temple's president, Neil Theobald, to step down. Since Theobald was the driving force behind the stadium, Temple has no clear timeline to bring a proposal to City Hall. The Owls have paid rent since 2003 to play at Lincoln Financial Field, home of the Philadelphia Eagles. To build its own campus stadium, Temple needs legislation passed by City Council. Although a stadium would bring a vibrant buzz to the campus, difficult obstacles stand in the way of North Philadelphia seeing a stadium in their backyard.
The atmosphere of a professional team’s stadium is something you cannot experience anywhere else, as soon as you step onto campus you instantly feel the excitement of game day as thousands upon thousands of fans prepare to watch their team play today. As you take your seat and prepare for the legendary tunnel walk you join in with the roar of the crowd.
Blue and gold filled the stadium as we arrived. The noise levels were unparallel to anything I have experienced. From the students, to the elder, everyone was determined to express the pride in their beloved Golden Eagles. This was the first game that I went to with my dad and his best friend, Steve Michels.
Over the summer break, eight cheerleaders and two supervisors brainstormed on ideas to bring life back into the stands at Tiger football games. Every year the stands have been full, however there is a barren spot to the left-hand side of the stands each game. Last year, the attendance of high school students at football games was few and far between, excluding the participants taking their places on the field and those required to work in the concession stand.
As I said before when people go to a sports game, they don’t just spend money at the stadium, but they also spend a significant amount of money around it. On average the Quicken Loans Arena has 2 million visitors. In 2016 the Quicken Loans
