Jackie O’ Kennedy was one of the biggest fashion influencers of the 1960s. Jackie was the wife of John F Kennedy. Since she was married to John and she was able to be in the white house this put her in the spotlight. This made is to many people around the world could see her clean and feminine style. She was one of the most influential people in fashion ever. She was in plenty of magazines for her chic style which put her in the spotlight which made it possible or people all around the world to view her style and made it possible for women to be able to show more skin and be more feminine.

For many of her clothes she worked closely with designer Oleg Cassini. She told he what she wanted the clothing to feature and how it should look. He would then make the clothes for Jackie. Her father-in-law funded her clothing budget and was a big part in her being able to have he iconic style. This shows that even though Jackie spent quite a bit of money on her clothes as previously stated that no matter how expensive an item may be you can always find a less expensive version. Ultimately this style was very beautiful and pure but it was very easy to make it your own for much less. While Jackie’s style was style based on certain clothing items and ideas from previous decades there were a few clothing items that made this style stand out. One item Jackie wore frequently was the pill box hat. This style of hate was not previously very popular but with Jackie in the spotlight it gained more recognition. Instyle Magazine stated that Jackie often wore well-tailored skirts and white gloves. Her style often featured items that were very sleek and feminine. Jackie also had an immense love for designer clothing. As she became more recognized she wore more high end items. These items would include things like Chanel Jackets, skirts by Dior, and so much more. Time Magazine wrote that Jackie loves to wear big sunglasses. The "flapper girl" trend peaked in 1926, leaving materials such as silk, chiffons, georgettes, crepes, and voiles in high demand. Beads, sequins, and feathers also adorned the fashionable dresses. Coco Chanel, a role model for the flapper, provided many styles, including the popular single strand of pearls. Corsets were no longer popular, but instead the "sexless" figure was favored. Scarfs were often draped over the shoulders if one could not afford a dead fox neck piece. However, the one thing that distinguished the flapper from anyone else was the bobbed haircut. Although, efforts were made to revive long hair, the bob remained stylish.
Women’s fashion was a social controversy in the 1920’s. This controversy was influenced by women’s clothing, swimwear, hairstyles, makeup, and attitude alone. This attire and new found character traits added a certain attitude and confidence to these women, starting what would eventually be remembered as a revolution.
People may say that the true years of fashion began in the late nineteen forties and went on through the early nineteen sixties. If you look at fashion today, its almost repeated the look from sixty years ago. Thanks to Coco Chanel, the iconic flapper image most closely associated with the roaring twenties came about. The flapper and flapper image didn’t actually come to be until around 1926 and even then was only in style for about three years. Typical flappers were women who appeared to have a bold attitude and were independent women who didn’t adhere to the previously innocent housewife image. A flapper usually had a bob haircut, a shorter than average dress, a flat chest, wore tons of make-up, drank illegal alcohol, smoked with a long cigarette holder, exposed her limbs and danced the Charleston. This was a drastic change from the typical American housewife to the reckless rebel. The flapper dresses stressed above the knee hemlines and construed straight, sleek shapes. The cloche was bell shaped at the top and had decorative additions such as feathers, geometric shapes, and flowers, which would showcase a woman’s demeanor. The aftermath of WWI caused America to enter a vigorous era. As a result of the role of women during the war, many customs and morals were changing. The Stock Market started booming, many new dances and music came about, and women got the right to vote and enter the workforce.
