Truth, Equality, and Justice are the essences that drive Jackie Yalta to spread confidence, compassion, and integrity in all aspects of her life. She moved to Lawrenceville, Georgia from Paterson, New Jersey in 2007 for the pursuit of a higher education. Jackie’s hero is her special needs brother, Tom, who conquers each day with his kindness and smile. Thankful for her education, family, and community, the move encouraged Jackie to pursue ways to contribute to society in a positive direction.
My goal in life is to be a good citizen of the United States and I believe this can be accomplished through education. Education is the fundamental key to a child's success. Whether it’s in academics, athletics, or community service, my experiences create

I’ve dedicated Tuesdays and Fridays to mentoring 9th-graders about making their high school experience easier. My brother’s compassion leads me to mentor another class of special needs students. My passion for giving back to the less fortunate has led me to be a spokeswoman for the "Promise of Gwinnett" campaign and to speak in front of the GA Board of Education about my experiences with education. I made connections and strengthened my relationships with the underappreciated cafeteria staff and custodians through the Chick-Fil-A Leader Academy (CLA) as we threw them a celebration for their service. Every day I’ve been selling candy for CLA to raise money for a scholarship for those in need of financial aid. But my biggest success that triumphs in my heart is my dedication to Holiday …show more content…
We mostly raised money by selling goods, but I was driven to be an example of giving back by providing a good attitude, lessons to inspire kindness, and implemented events. When I realized how much money my ideas made, I couldn't stop innovating new ways to promote our purpose. This drove me to do more which lead me to go speak on television and ask for donations during my chorus concert. As I thanked them, I reminded them how grateful we are to be a part of a community that's bonded together by love. When we reached our goal of $15,000, we used that money to buy a student glasses, send a child to the doctors, bought some clothes for someone in need, etc. Holiday Hope inspired me and taught me how one person could make a huge impact while bringing people
This past summer, I acquired an internship at Baldwin and Lyons, an insurance company in Indianapolis. Every Wednesday during my internship, a couple of employees and I would participate in a prodigious community service project, Meals on Wheels. Throughout the three months that I worked at Baldwin and Lyons, I got acquainted with some of the individuals whom we delivered to. These inspiring individuals were so grateful and appreciative that we took time out of our day to volunteer to do such a service. One elderly woman who we delivered to would sing to us as she came to the front door “good meals, good meals, good meals.” She is one woman that I will never forget. First going into this, I was elated knowing I was I getting out of the
Contributing to my school and community is a true passion. I am involved in programs like the Red Cross, Angel Tree created by The Salvation Army, and Olive Garden’s Pasta For Pennies. My school hosted a Red Cross blood drive, and I was responsible for promoting the event to individuals within our school. We had a total of two hundred students donate blood. We helped save a total of six hundred lives! I also assisted the Program Angel Tree by promoting the program among the student organizations within my school. Our involvement has helped hundreds of less fortunate children and seniors receive necessities and gifts! As a team, the student council also collects spare change from students in our school. Our collaboration with Olive Garden has helped fund the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's School & Youth campaign. I am truly glad that my contributions have made an impact within my community and society! My strong involvement in extracurricular activities has helped me become knowledgeable, principled, and a risk-taker. I carry a strong sense of respect and righteousness, and I approach unfamiliar opportunities with a vision and great courage. I seek to set an example for members within my school, community, state, and
For my twelve service hours, I decided to dedicate my time to one organization. That organization is known as College Mentors for Kids. College Mentors for Kids is a program specifically designed for elementary and college aged students. It is a nonprofit organization that works with over 2,000 students and mentors one day a week on a college campus. This program can be found throughout nine states and on 33 different college campuses. I am fortunate enough to be attending Ball State University, which is home to the largest chapter in the country for the program. The program’s main focus is to acknowledge the importance of higher education and career growth as you get older. There are a variety of ways the members of this organization accomplish
As what seemed to be an almost non-existent summer comes to an end, I have had time to reflect on what I hope to accomplish during my last year roaming the halls of James E. Taylor High School. I picture the impossible calculus problems that I will be required to solve or the piles of books I will struggle to finish as my literature exams near, but one thing that I am truly enthusiastic about is service. Improving my grades had been my most important goal as I began my high school career, however as this draws to an end, I have come to realize that the one thing that will truly leave a mark and will hopefully inspire others is the service that I have given to my community. Through Key Club, I have not only made friendships and bonds that I
First of all, we define success in terms of each student working along with their parents and then work in partnership to achieve that success.
Starting in October, and continuing until March, I completed over ten hours of service to those in need. In late October, I participated in the fall festival by “scaring” younger children who went on the hayride. Later, in February, some of my friends and I played bingo with the elderly at Sunrise. In February, as well, I visited my great grandpa, who I rarely see, with my dad and spent time with him. As I began to notice that my neighborhood was becoming dirty, in March, I spent about an hour picking up trash in, and around, my neighborhood. Since the beginning of the year, every Tuesday at lunch, I helped a fourth grader with reviewing what they were currently learning, otherwise known as peer tutoring. Through my actions, I helped others
In eighth grade, I reached beyond my community and took part in a Stop Hunger Now program. The goal was to package 20,000 meals in under two hours and we reached it with time to spare. We wrote a reflection after having engaged in this service event; I don’t remember exactly what I had written, but I do remember the contentment I felt after helping that number of people. I learned that I retain a sense of confidence and satisfaction when someone has a smile on their face as a result of my
I only expected to raise around three hundred dollars, but ended up raising exactly seven hundred dollars. I was very proud and excited that I made this much money in donations! It truly is one of the greatest feelings in the world knowing I can make an impact on someone else's life. Throughout the course of my senior project I learned and improved many skills that I was not very good at to begin. I improved my communications skills immensely, my organization, and leadership skills. I improved my communication skills greatly by talking to school officials, businesses, adults, players, and parents. With my shy personality it was not easy, but I had to learn to step out of my comfort zone. By working alone, I had a bigger responsibility, much more planning, organizing, and work.. It was not a bad thing though, I learned how to improve my communication, planning, organization, and leadership skills by working independently. I am grateful that God gave me the opportunity to raise money for such a wonderful cause and organization . It was the best project I have ever done, and I would definitely do it all over

It was early in my journey, growing up in Congo that my parents, taught me that education is the only way to succeed and accomplish what one believes in. I worked hard during my early days at school and consistently followed my family advice to take the path with serenity, love and perseverance. This has taught me to focus on a path that could eventually lead me to success and make my family and my community happy.
My grandfather taught me the importance of making a difference in the lives of others. Subsequently, he declared that each day provides another opportunity to make a difference, and I should never sleep until I have generated a difference for someone that day. My high school organizational memberships have bestowed many opportunities to enrich the lives of others. The Caring Cats motto is “helping to make school a better place.” As I am an actively involved member of this organization, I volunteer for the Special Olympics competitions that are held at our school’s campus. Special Olympics provide opportunities for youth to achieve success; unfortunately for some, it is first time success is known. Consequently, I deem it necessary for me to
The latest Shop-With-A-Cop program that we aided in was a back-to-school event. The little girl that I worked with was such a sweetheart: she loved anything that had animals on it or was pink. She goes to a neighboring town’s middle school and is quite proud to be going into the sixth grade. I also saw a few of my fellow classmates that day. To me this was such a slap in the face that made me realize that people who sit in the same classroom as me aren’t as fortunate as I
Success is an essential component human beings seek to obtain. In society, individuals who emerge successful is a result of obtaining an education. However, it is multiple factors that allow a person to be successful and not solely one. Success is not one dimensional. An additional element that plays a role in the determination of success is life experiences. A combination of both obtaining an education and obtaining personal life experiences are important in creating the most valuable and successful people in society.
While my parents were in the prime of their parentship, they decided to commence a project that would last several years. They decide to build a new home for our family; our friends, family, and local contractors aided us in our challenge. I recall my family spending countless hours every day, while working 40 plus hours a week and raising a family. When the day they moved in, they had a sense of accomplishment for the long hard work they had produced. They own that house, the blood, sweat, and tears that our house caused formed a connection with my family. A connection with perseverance and a sense of self; just by looking at that house, my parents think of the love of their family, and why they decided to do it. This is the key, producing something for the betterment of self or
