Jail overcrowding is one of the largest issues in the United states, mainly due to our popularity amongst the world with being the number one country of most incarcerations. As prestigious as that may sound, it is obviously not. The United States is infamously known for the amount of criminal conduct which then causes more incarcerations and leads to more and more prisons being built thus the one thing the U.S leads every country in, jail overcrowding. Jails were originally built and meant for rehabilitation, somewhere along the line is seems as though our correctional systems have lost sight of that. A bit ago, in my critical thinking class, our professor showed us a 40minute film on what life Is like after being released from prison. There were a couple of men that had similar experiences after being released. One of the least common experiences that all should know was the fact that majority of inmates receive no more than 40 dollars after release. Now one that many have known about through personal experience is the box that asks whether or not you have ever been convicted. That box alone is obviously self-incriminating and would instantly cause any employer to instantly judge the person before even considering let alone review the application. Lastly, and definitely the largest problem of them all is the relapse of falling back into criminal behavior after release, also known as recidivism. There are many cases of inmates being released with no money and no way to get a job which leads to one really unfortunate option which is going back to what you did or something similar that got you in prison the first time whether it is robbing or dealing drugs. Sadly, there aren’t many options to help you get out of this situation and put back on the right track, and there lies the
