Jalinea Kannas: A Short Story

If you’ve ever lived near Mulberry Street in the small town Southington, Connecticut, then you would remember these three children. They were friends; I suppose you could say childhood friends. Jalinea Kannas [Ka-nis], Tyler Peytirch [pay-ter-ch], and Kier Antonna [an-toe-nah]. They are very different from each other, but they are as close as can be. Jalinea has her slightly wavy mop of flaming red hair in a medium cut, just below her shoulders. Her brown eyes are bright with excitement. Her slightly freckled face gives her character, and she is full of it. Tyler’s brown hair was in his typical messy style, his hazel eyes matching along with it. You see, in the language of flowers, it can mean ‘early friendship’. Even though we’ve been friends for a while now, I wanted to give you these to the both of you to commemorate our friendship, and hope that it will last forever!” Kier gives a small wail of happiness. It was almost overwhelming for her how thoughtful and caring Jalinea was to them. “I–I’ll treasure it forever! Maybe I’ll learn the flower language one day so I could give my gratitude to you too.” Tyler gave a radiant smile. “I as well. Thank you so much, Jalinea. Yeah, we’ll definitely stay friends forever. Promise.” “Promise.” “Promise!”  So they kept that promise. It was a promise that they would keep for a long time. They still are, and they still will. Always and forevermore. But... who knew it would end up like this?  Beep. Beep. Beep. The beeping of the heart monitor continually pierces the silence. Two figures stand beside the bed of white.  They could only hope for the best. You might be able to pinpoint the (sound of) small weeping from one of them. Or perhaps you could see the dullness in their eyes. So sad, yet so dead.
