James Bowie was one of The Alamo’s greatest folk hero and an American pioneer. He is mostly known for his unbelievable knife fighting skills and his leadership in The Alamo.
III. Credibility: James Bowie is an ancestor of mine and I have always been intrigued with the history of his life. I also have been doing some research on the internet for the past few weeks.

James Rezin bowie was born on April 10th, 1796 in Terrapin Creek, KY (now spring creek). His father was Rezin Bowie and his mother was Elve Bowie.
2. They moved around from Tennessee to Missouri and in finally settled in Rapides, Louisiana on May, 2 1801 before James bowie grew into manhood and left for Mexico.
3.His family were in many community affairs, the family farmed and owned a gristmill. A gristmill grinds grain into flour. Later, his father purchased land along the Vermilion River where he developed a sugarcane and cotton plantation. The only Down side of this is that they owned and traded slaves.

1. He was known to be a good hunter and fisher
2. He caught and road wild horses, wrestled alligators, and trapped bears.

C. James bowie began working and trading early 1. In his teen years, he began working. Why did the Alamo battle occur?
1. To claim their Texan independence from mexico.
Sam Houston sent orders wanting to demolish the fortifications in Bexar.
2. bowie said the Alamo in Bexar was a strategic "frontier picqet guard."
B. What did James bowie do during the battle?
1. He was elected by the Texan volunteers who occupied the Alamo to be commander instead of William Travis.
2. 1500 or more Mexican cavalrymen under Santa Anna arrived on February 23 and requested a parley. They told the Texans to surrender, but Bowie disregarded the orders.
3. 200 of their men brought together by Houston, William Travis, Davey Crockett and the men who were already at the garrison fought hard for 13 days against the Mexican army.
C. James Bowie’s last moments
1. March 6th the Mexican forces broke through a breach in a wall and over powered the men inside and they were all perished. The Mexican army suffered up to 1600 men. Almost 6 times the size of Bowie’s army. The last days of the battle at the Alamo, James Bowie became very ill and rumors say it was TB, or phenomena. He had to give up his position as command and gave it back to Travis. He was confined to a cot and brought down regularly to see his
