James Buchanan was the fifteenth president of the United States and debateably the worst. Buchanan was said to have seemingly proficient ideas with poor results; although he was reportedly an intelligent and kind-hearted man, his actions in office were those of an un-educated kook.
James Buchanan was born on April 23rd, 1791 in Cove Gap, Pennsylvania. Buchanan’s parents James Buchanan Sr. and Elizabeth Speer were Ulster Scots; his father emigrated from Donegal, Ireland in 1783. He grew up with six sisters and four brothers in a log cabin until they moved to Mercersburg, Pennsylvania in 1797. Buchanan’s educational career consisted of attendance to Old Stone Academy in Carlisle, Pennsylvania and Dickinson College (also in Carlisle, Pennsylvania) where he graduated with honors in 1807, he then moved to Lancaster and earned his law degree. In the War of 1812, Buchanan served in the defense of Baltimore and is known as the only president with military experience who never served as an officer. Although he claimed to love Anne Caroline Coleman, they were never married and after their breakup Buchanan sent the following letter to Corenelia Roosevelt which led people to question his sexual orientation.
"I am now 'solitary and alone,' having no companion in the house with me. I have gone a wooing to several gentlemen, but have not succeeded with any one of them. I feel that it is not good for man to be alone, and [I] should not be astonished to find myself married to some
Ulysses S. Grant is generally showed as bad president by having mostly red and couple orange blocks on the graph in Wiki. His presidency is marked by him not being a political man and seemed ineffective enforcing the civil rights laws. He was involved in some scandals. He led the United States during a depression from Europe which affected the United States jobs. Ulysses also was dealing with a few scandals and he also passed the 15 amendment. Ulysses was not a political man, so he deserves what he is ranked at.
James Madison was born March 16, 1751 in Belle Grove, Port Conway.1 He was the oldest of 12 children, seven of who actually lived to adulthood. His parents were James Madison Sr. And Eleanor Rose Conway. Rose, his mother lived to be ninety eight years old. In 1762 at the age of 11 he was sent to a boarding school in King and Queen county, Virginia. His father, James, was a successful planter and owned more than 3,000 acres of land with dozens of slaves. He died of heart failure at the age of 85 on June 28, 1836. He died at the Montpelier estate.2
James Knox Polk a democrat and USA’s eleventh president was one the most effective leaders we’ve had, even though he only served for 1 term. During presidency, he had done a lot for our country. Nobody had expected him to accomplish four major goals in our government.
Andrew Jackson, ranked as one of the best presidents the United States has had, he did a lot of good also a lot of bad. Jackson believed that states should have more power than the Federal government, but he did the opposite when he was in office, giving the President more power, by signing a veto, than before he was in office. Jackson was also not accepting of the Supreme Court’s decisions by not enforcing their rulings.
For instance, I believe that Andrew Jackson was not a favorable president because of the financial collapse in 1837 also know as the Panic of 1837. I reckon this because it was an act of immature and irresponsible populous pandering. He basically declared a war against the U.S. bank. This made absolutely no economic sense.
In the nineteenth century, a great figure emerged from the common folk of America: Andrew Jackson. Andrew Jackson grew up as an orphan, facing many hardships. Jackson grew up in Lancaster, North Carolina along with his two brothers, Hugh and Robert. When the War of 1812 had begun, Jackson turned out to be a spectacular fighter, leading the country to victory at the Battle of New Orleans. Following the war, Jackson became the seventh president of the United State, resulting in several questionable actions. Andrew Jackson was a prominent figure in his early life and war experiences, presidency, and post-presidency.
Through out history, many presidents have come and gone. Fortunately, those brilliant minds have shaped America into the country we have today. James Knox Polk, the “dark horse” of America, was a dedicated man that created change in a fragile society. James K. Polk was the last of the Jacksonians to sit in the White House, and the last strong President until the Civil War. Militarily, economically, socially, politically, and most of all historically, Polk helped lead America out of the turmoil of its time.
James Madison, the fourth President of the United States, was conceived on March 16, 1751 to Nellie Conway Madison and James Madison, Sr. in Orange County Virginia. He was the eldest of twelve youngsters, just seven of whom survived earliest stages. He atttende school in Virginia for a portion of his childhood and mentored at home until the age of eighteen, when he enlisted at the College of New Jersey, later known as Princeton University. He exceeded expectations at his studies, graduating right on time in 1771. He was slight and debilitated, on the other hand, and endured an anxious issue that influenced his spirits enormously as a young fellow. He needed desire until the flare-up of the American Revolution, when he gave himself completely
James Buchanan, 15th President of the United States, was born in Cove Gap, Pennsylvania, in 1791. His father, James Sr., was a prosperous merchant and farmer, and his mother, Elizabeth, intelligent woman. As a young boy, Buchanan was educated at Stone Academy in his village, and later, Dickinson College, where he was nearly suspended for unhealthy behavior before finally graduating in 1809. After graduating from college, Buchanan relocated to Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where he studied law, and, in 1812, he was admitted to the bar. Shortly thenceforth, he enrolled in the military at the beginning of the War of 1812 and took part in the defense of Baltimore.
This paper is about James Buchanan, our 15th president to be elected. As this paper continues we’ll learn about James Buchanan and his life leading into the office of presidency.
James Polk had many achievements which led him to be one of the greatest presidents… or was he? In his presidency he expanded the U.S. by ⅓ by settling a dispute with England in Oregon and winning the Mexican and American war that gave the U.S. california and a lot of the south west. He also kept his word by only serving one term… only to die 103 days later. Which set the record of “The shortest retirement of a U.S. president”. Of his four goals, which were to reestablish a U.S. treasury, to cut tariffs, to gain control of New Mexico, and to gain control of the Oregon territory; he achieved all four!!
James Buchanan was the fifteenth president of the United States. He was considered one of America’s worst presidents. As a member of the Democratic party, Buchanan was born in Cove Gap, Pennsylvania. He was the only president from Pennsylvania and the last born president in the 18th century. In 1820, Buchanan won the election to the United States; House of Representatives as a Federalist. James Buchanan ran against John C. Fremont and Millard Fillmore. He won presidency by sixty electoral votes. I will discuss James Buchanan’s life before presidency, his life during presidency, and his life after presidency.
To begin with, Woodrow Wilson was born on December 28th, 1856 and passed away on February 3, 1924. His home as a boy was in Columbia, South Carolina from 1870-1874. Woodrow Wilson’s house in Washington, D.C became a presidential museum. How cool is that! Woodrow Wilson’s father was Joseph Ruggles Wilson and his mother’s name was Jessie Janet Woodrow Wilson. Wilson first married Ellen Louise Axson in 1860-1914. Their
The opening line in Austen’s P&P “It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife” is a direct reflection of society’s views on marriage in the 19th century. The irony of this quote however stems from the fact that it is more evident for a single woman, due to societal restrictions would be in want of a husband. In this period, a person was judged on their economical stance rather than their nature as exemplified by Mrs Bennet when she exclaims to Mr Bennet “A single man of large fortune: what a fine thing for our girls!” with the knowledge of the financial security that can be sought
Austen in the opening sentence says: “It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife” (Austen, 3). That sentence truly expresses the closed minded view of society, in that, to have a proper life a young wealthy bachelor should be looking for a wife. It is hard for one to imagine that in noble society the needs of a bachelor were but a mere companion/wife to produce offspring and stand by as a host for entertaining and whatever else. I get lost in the
