I, James Mchenry; was born in Ballymena,County Antrim,Ireland. I enjoyed a classical education in Dublin,Ireland. At the age of 18 is when I moved to Philadelphia I continued my schooling at “Newark Academy” which happened to be in Delaware. After that I studied under Doctor Benjamin Rush for 2 years who introduced me to the world of medicine and helped me develop my political views. During the Revolutionary war I served in the 5th Pennsylvania Battalion as a military surgeon, then briefly I was captured after the battle for Fort Washington. Luckily George Washington himself appointed me as Assistant Secretary after he took interest in me for some odd reason. Some of my political views consist of being on the Federalists side and believe in
I, Robert Yates, was on born January 27, 1738, in Schenectady, New York. I was the oldest of the 12 children of Joseph Yates and Maria Dunbar. I decided to pursue a career in law, which led to my admittance to the bar in 1760. In the early years of the American struggle for independence I considered myself a radical whig. Although I did not sign the Sons of Liberty Constitution, I strongly opposed the Stamp Act, and I was one of the first members of the Albany Committee of Correspondence.
In the book, Johnny Tremain, Esther Forbes shows accurately and successfully how challenging it was for the children during the Revolution. During the 1770’s before and during the Revolutionary war in American colonies, many children had a hard time and it is shown in Johnny Tremain. With lack of education because of not going to school and a low literacy rate many kids could only become a higher class by marriage or a great skill in a select craft. Along with having a great skill in a craft kids had to work either back-breaking jobs or an inconsistent job. Esther Forbes, author of Johnny Tremain, shows the challenges for kids living during the Revolutionary times through their education, class and job career.

The parallel between McCandles and John Waterman is that the two characters share the characteristic of emotional instability which us demonstrated by their radical actions. I. Chapter 8 ( pg 54out of 141 ) the author mentions mentions that the divorce of his parents and his father's abandonment affected John severely in the sense that it caused instability within his life. The instability caused by the relation John had with his family and his father can be connected to the instability McCandles had, because growing up McCandles never had an ok relationship with his family and his father. In addition to the instability McCandles had with his family he also embarked on an extensive journey through Alaska without notifying those around him leading them with the impression that he simply disappeared into the wild. The introduction of John Waterman in the story is used by the author to better explain and provide comparison to the reader so that they can understand the thinking process of someone with the same instability as McCandles.
It is difficult to make the decision if Father Flynn is innocent or guilty. In John Patrick Shanley’s Doubt; a parable, he eclipses the truth very well. The scenes about the toy, the camping trip and the undershirt cause much confusion; causing the audience to go back and forth in their minds and doubt Father Flynn. Law says that people are innocent until proven guilty although; realistically, everyone knows that people are guilty until proven innocent. It is very possible that Father Fynn is only helping Donald, because he is less fortunate than the other students at his school; and it is also very possible that he is hurting the child by molesting him. The decision is left to the audience as the jury.
Chris McCandless was a hero to many people throughout his life and he was often considered a hero to most. But, a lot of people criticized his errors along the journey. When Chris died, his impact on society was mostly positive, and the people who he met remembered his accomplishments that he has made in their life. His passing let people remember him for what he has done to help others along the way. His mistakes and flaws added up from the first day he started this path of life. Throughout the story, Into the Wild, by Jon Krakauer, Chris McCandless is claimed to be a hero by many of the few he met across his journey to Alaska. However, a
I had become very interested in politics. In 1760 I served in the assembly of the Three Lower Counties. In 1762, I became the Philadelphia member of the Pennsylvania assembly. I lead the conservative side in many of their political debates. But I lost my position in 1764 in a debate against Benjamin Franklin.
The textbook and McGuffey’s Reader, an emphasis was on teaching moral lessons, reading, religion and general education. Additionally, the reader was designed for the development of the common school for children to be able to expand their knowledge and become more productive in life. As an industrial nation began emerging, moral lessons were taught to children which was to create appropriate behavior. One of the goals in the development of the common school was to create social divisions to help decrease tension between the rich and poor. The wealthy were responsible for taking care of the poor and treat them with respect. They were to use their God given gifts to help others less fortunate to feel like accepted in society. Conversely,
In Flannery O'Connor's A Good Man is Hard To Find, one is struck by the unexpected violence at the end of the story. However, if you re-read the story a second time, you will see definite signs that foreshadow the grotesque ending. The story begins with the typical nuclear family being challenged by the grandmother who doesn't want to take the vacation to Florida. She has read about a crazed killer by the name of the Misfit who is on the run heading for Florida. Unfortunately, she is ignored by every member of the family except for the little girl, June Star, who can read the grandmother like an open book. The fact that she admonishes Bailey, her son, of this Misfit

Here, Charles created a portfolio of architectural and interior ideas and water color art
“We have nothing to fear, but fear itself.” Known by many, this common phrase has few words, but a intense meaning. In Ernest Hemingway’s short story, “The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber,” the overcoming of fear is shown throughout the story. Francis Macomber and his wife Margaret Macomber are on an African safari with a man name Robert Wilson. Hemingway portrays Francis Macomber as wealthy and beautiful, yet cowardly. Macomber's wife Margaret also young and beautiful, but seemingly dissatisfied with her husband of eleven years. Robert Wilson is portrayed as a fearless man that has little regard for anyone but himself. The story is focused around Francis Macomber’s cowardly actions and his attempt to become
Cedric seeks the approval of his mother and father, and tries to figure out if he wants to be like and listen to him, or her. I feel he probably wanted to relate to his father so that he could get that manhood that he needed in his life. The older men encounters in this chapter - Cedric's father, but also Uncle Butch and Cornelius Leonard - stand as cautionary tales for what the wrong choices can mean for Cedric. Cedric Gilliam is of course the most distressing example for Cedric Jennings: the son seeks the approval of the father but does not know how to relate to him. Further, the father has earned a good education but that has not translated into a prosperous life. Education in and of itself is not the answer. He wanted to figure out if
Introduction: Throughout the book of Into The Wild Chris McCandless is known to be a wacko reckless idiot, and is also known to be courageous and heroic. However does a courageous person go out into the wilderness knowing that the outcome will be fatal? People viewed him from different perspectives and also have broad range of opinions of this young man. Some deemed him to be incredibly dim-witted or a man that simply just followed his heart. Evidence shows that Chris McCandless is actually a mix of both. The first opinion that described McCandless was brainless, idiotic, and extremely foolish. Many passages from Into The Wild can support this outlook.
Coming to the University of Nebraska at Omaha, I did not know many people. College was a brand new experience with several opportunities to become involved. The organization, however, that started my involvement on campus was the Honors Student Association. This association opened the door for me to meet new people and assist with activities, not only on campus but around the community. I was able to attend the socials that took place and assist with the Distinguished Scholars Competition because of my involvement in this association. I am applying to become a representative because I want to further my experience and involvement with this great organization. Providing service to other students and community members is a huge part of
Most traditional upbringings include a few key life lessons. Among these is a sense of paying it forward. There are many different proverbs to describe this occurrence; “Do unto to others as you would have them do unto you,” and “One good turn deserves another,” The idea of reciprocity is such a generalized norm that people often don’t realize that they partake in this behavior. These reciprocal behaviors can often be very simple; holding a door, offering favors, and sharing some of your time can help to establish equity in relationships. People keep track of the good things done for them so that they can pay back these good deeds. Being indebted to anyone is a situation most people are uncomfortable with.
