Imagine, you’re ripped away from your mother’s arm while she cries and begs for you to be returned. You’re driven away to some foreign land where you’re taught that you should forget your culture, your home and learn the new and correct ways of man. May I introduce you to Stolen. It is written by, Jane Harrison, and was first introduced in 1992 however it started off as a research journal which then evolved into a play. It’s set in a children’s home and is a candid and empathetic work that traces the lives of the five stolen Aboriginal children. They struggle to make sense of a world where they have been told to forget their families, their homes and their language. Stolen dramatizes the fear, persecution and anger felt by the children and their families and “displays the ongoing devastating effect on generations of Aboriginal people physically, psychologically and culturally.” (STOLEN, n.d.). This play raises the question for the audience: “Were the principles of this policy so rigidly fixed that when the choice had to be made between saving a child, or maintaining the integrity of a system, the system would be given priority over the needs of the child?” (Wilton, 1998) …show more content…

The change of location is quite dramatic as it leaps backwards and forwards through time without warning. This creates a memory-like sequence as each scene is connected through a stray thought. It is connected through chronological order and focuses on the theme which link these episodes
