In this story a girl named Jawanna was oppressing a young girl named Maria. Maria was terrified to stand up to Jawanna. She was so scared that when Jawanna asked her for her lunch Maria was so terrified to say no until, Maria friend Jessica and her teacher Ms. McMillian told her to not be afraid to stand up and have the audacity to say no to Jawanna. The next day Maria took the advice that her friend and teacher gave her and told Jawanna no when she asked Maria to do her homework for her. When Maria stood up for herself Jawanna finally got in trouble and Maria was finally appetitive for the talk her friend and teacher gave her. I also think that Maria stood up for herself because she was so tired of the fear to go to school with the thought

She went to a high school party at the end of the summer and met this boy named Andy. They danced a little, talked and kissed. Andy took Melinda out to the woods and raped her. She called the cops because she was so scared. When the cops showed up, they arrested people. Everyone knew Melinda called the police which makes everyone hate her. It is important to be courageous in life to overcome obstacles and positively reach milestones. Many courageous people have accomplished huge milestones. Melinda may not have accomplished anything huge but Melinda did talk to Rachel about what happened that night, tells Andy no, and opens up to Mr.Freemen about everything. In the short story “Girl”, by Jamaica Kincaid is told from the perspective of two different people. There is a bonding relationship that is happening between the two people in this short story. The mother seems to be the main character in this essay uses a very strict tone to her daughter. The daughter is being told about how to do things in her life the correct way. The daughter barely speaks during this essay, she is doing more analyzing than arguing with her mother. When the mother gives the daughter advise she was trying to give her words of wisdom.
