Jazz made an early deputation starting in the early twentieth century. Many popular musicians today, even some less known ones base their style of Louis Armstrong, Benny Goodman, Count Basie, and Bing Crosby. These four men changed the way people look at jazz today. In today’s era, it is impossible for one not to find a jazz club. There are live jazz concerts, watching online, small local bars that perform jazz music and big venues like Lincoln Center that have jazz performances. The ‘Roaring Twenties’ was a period where tradition clashed with revolution. It was a period where older generations wanted to return to ‘normality’ after the Great War and the youth, paired with the new technological advances and new cultures, wanted to ‘roar’. Then the Great Depression took over America. It was arguably the darkest economic era in American history; unemployment soared and the people had just lost hope over their future. Even though both eras were convoluted in its own way, it can be examined by approaching the growth and reception of the most American music – jazz.
