From an early age Jordan Rudd, now a high school senior at Brownsville Veteran’s Memorial High School, demonstrated the athletic talent and the necessary dedication to excel. Jordan’s father, Brownsville CBP Officer Michael Rudd, was able to recognize that raw talent and competitiveness which is unusual for a six year old. Officer Rudd worked with his daughter molding her and providing her with the skills and technique she would need to make it on the basketball court. When Jordan got to high school, she already had a reputation as a sports prodigy, but what made her stand out was her commitment to the team and her good sportsmanship.

“The Butler Way demands commitment, denies selfishness, accepts reality, yet seeks improvement everyday while putting the team above self (“Butler”).” The preceding quote is the motto for the entire Butler University Athletics department. Every team, player, and faculty member must adhere to it if they want to be in Butler Athletics. The general idea of the quote is referred to as the Butler Way. One of the Butler teams that showcases this Butler Way is the Men’s Basketball team. College athletes are students, not professional athletes who are paid salaries and encourage to pursue a career in sports. College athletes are already receiving access to a college education through their respected sport and earning scholarships to pay tuition, fees, books, room and board, and other allowable expenses that the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) would allow a college to give to their athletes. People should start viewing college sports as a student's vehicle to a higher education and not a career or profession. When I was a child, reading meant a magical story that I believed would come true when I grew up. Reading today is antithetic to how it was back in my childhood days. Having a want to read, meant that the library would become my best friend. As a child, my parents wanted me to stay active, which meant I was either at a ball tournament, camping, playing outside, or playing games with my friends, but I made sure I read before bed or on my way to and from ball games. When I was in preschool and elementary school my favorite books to read were The Rainbow Fish and the Junie B. Jones series. The Rainbow Fish was my favorite book because I remember seeing the cover of the book with all its vibrant colors that drew me to read it, which looking at the pictures were good enough for my attention span. Junie B. Jones book series were my favorite in grade school because I could relate Junie B. Jones life because I was the same age going through the same issues. The series was popular for children my age at our school, which we made a competition of who can read all the books first.
