I trembled and my heart failed within me, when, on looking up, I saw by the light of the moon the demon at the casement. A ghastly grin wrinkled his lips as he gazed on me, where I sat fulfilling the task which he had allotted to me. As I looked on him, his countenance expressed the utmost extent of malice
I hastily fled to my newest place of work. I had inhabited the world with a second creation. This demon, though a woman, was more terrifying and hideous than the first. A monstrous creature created only for longing of a new beginning. A world where I would forget this horrible deed I had bestowed upon the universe. I had only promised my first creation a companion, not a family. His companion would never get the chance to conceive, for no more demons will wreak havoc upon mankind. I fled knowing the creature was close looking for what I had promised him.

Sometimes the devil you know seems better than the devil you don’t. Lilith was terrified of what she might be about to experience now that she was finally being let out of her cell. Her story began with her feeling scared, as she had no idea where she was, who had kidnapped her, or what in the world was going on. Yet, just as she had, at long last, gained some knowledge of her situation, gotten used to being around Jdahya, and even gotten to know him a little, she was being made to step vastly out of her comfort zone and into a truly alien situation. It is entirely understandable that she was afraid. Yet, all it took for her to overcome this fear was a simple, albeit rather insensitive, comment from Jdahya. Seeing her hesitation to leave, he challenged her to “overcome her fear.” “Back into your cage, Lilith?,” he prodded, and she immediately realized that her fear was controlling her and decided not to give in to it. Nevertheless, she did not see the strength she was displaying, but rather, the way she had been

They replied, "For God's sake, mistress, don't do this to us, for at this moment we feel nothing but dismay and fear of this demon. Please, excuse us." 2. Choose two key scenes and explore how Wharton brings to life the tension (or the antagonism) that exists between Zeena and Ethan.
Ninh’s novel jumps between flashbacks of the war and Kien’s love affairs, in particular one with his childhood sweetheart Phuong. Ninh uses the reoccurring theme of Kien’s love, or loss of love, as a metaphor for the impact the war had on the Vietnamese people. The original title of the novel is actually The Destiny of Love. Kien likens the war to a soldiers love saying, “The sorrow of war inside a soldier’s heart was in a strange way similar to the sorrow of love. It was a kind of nostalgia…It was a sadness, a missing, a pain which could send one soaring back into the past” (Ninh, 94). Kien does find himself often reminiscing of his young innocent love with Phuong. The end of the novel focuses

The two heroines share a harsh background; they both have had a rough childhood and are searching for a way out of their misery. Their lives are centered around the strategies that contribute to their rise. When writing this essay I was mainly interested in exploring how even the characters with smaller roles could affect the outcome, could shape the path the heroines followed towards their rise, but also wanted to analyze all the aspects through characters contributed to the liberation of the heroines.
