Proverbs states, "Wisdom is the principal thing, therefore get wisdom; in all your getting, get understanding." According to Jeanne Schloesser, a successful, home-based entrepreneur, "This verse, Proverbs 7:4, holds high regard in my life, and acts as one of my life mottos". Being a vocal, passionate woman who remains humble, she exemplifies how this verse has encouraged her to seek out wisdom and understanding, and how she utilizes these characteristics into her daily business. As a result, she has become an example of success in both her business and personal life. Ever since a young age, Schloesser has had a passion to help people. When she went to college, she originally studied to become a parole officer. Eventually, she switched to teaching …show more content…
Expect things to be harder than what you think. Be passionate about your service or product, and expect the unexpected. There will be twists and turns that you will not see coming, and you must prepare as best you can”. Schloesser also advocates the use of mentors. She believes that mentors are crucial to not only keep people accountable, but to also push them to become better versions of themselves. She explains how she achieves her passions through business. “I love what I do, and that is to help people. It provides a way to share the Gospel with people who might not step inside a church.” Even with the ups and downs of business, “I believe in what I am doing, and that I am called by God to serve others. This is what keeps me going in those times”. Jeanne Schloesser has dedicated herself to helping others not only live in physical health, but to share the message of Christ, and live out her faith in every activity of her life. Through business, she has learned that the power of dedication, combined with prayer, is a powerful tool. Even today, she still prays with her team, and works with them to be persistent, despite any
She reminds the people, through the untainted word of Jesus Christ that He saves, heals, and set free from the burden of sin and degradation that Satan inflicts upon His people. Evangelist Stokes has ministered extensively throughout the United States and South Africa spreading the Good
In the detailed story of an impoverished family during the late 1900’s, Jeannette Walls describes her experience from the young age of 3, up until adulthood. The family of 6, with Rex Walls as the father, Rose Mary as the mother, and her three siblings, Lori, Brian and Maureen, were constantly moving throughout the country with little to no food or cash. The memoir shows how dysfunctional the family was, but never seemed to force the reader to condemn the parents. In a life of poverty, the have to move for own to town, and often lived in various mining towns. Although they each found something they learned to love (like Jeannette’s rock collection) in the desert, they had to leave them behind once Rex’s alcoholism only worsened, and they ran
The medical field of nursing is based on servitude in God’s mission and through the means of compassion. Our missional goals must align with God’s (Wright, 2012). Nursing consists of care and compassion for the disadvantaged, weak, sick, and injured. This is in addition to the pursuit of high standards in professionalism, articulated in the delivery of a valuable service that is based on unique knowledge and experience, performed ethically, and practiced autonomously. The major characteristic of compassion is from God and how it relates to this world of professionalism is seen through nursing. Any job that advances God’s work in the world is a Godly choice (Col. 1:16-20).
For 17 years God has blessed me to serve alongside my husband as directors of Chi Alpha at the University of Texas at Arlington. During my time here, I have served and mentored hundreds of young women and internationals who now fulfill the mission of Chi Alpha in the marketplace and the world as pastors, missionaries, police officers, nurses, teachers, and social workers. I am especially thankful to walk with those students who came to faith, experienced discipleship, and the Holy Spirit empowered their lives through the ministry.
Jeannette Rankin believed, “What one decides to do in crisis depends on one 's philosophy of life, and that philosophy cannot be changed by an incident. If one hasn 't any philosophy in crises, others make the decision" (Lewis, 2011). This quote introduces us to the life of an amazing woman who dedicated her life to the rights of women, children, blue-collar workers, veterans and most importantly - peace. Many times in this paper, Jeanette 's own quotes will serve as the voice of her moral courage. Born in an era of limited women 's rights, Jeannette Rankin challenged conventional thought about the influence and power of a woman. She was the first woman elected to Congress,
James D. Houston showed the pains and suffering of every Japaneses American who were sent into the work camps of the United States. But he doesn’t do this alone he uses the help of his co-writer Jeanne Wakatsuki Houston. After being sent to this camp, her family is destroyed leaving a lasting impact on her life. The emotion of this book as well as the information brought into this book all ties back to Jeanne’s goal as wanting to show ethnic diversity in the United States.
A proverb (Hebrew marshal) is a short poetic sentence conveying wisdom in a concise and memorable form. (p.259) Solomon the writer of proverbs, was told by God” he could ask for anything he wanted and God would give it to him. Solomon asked for wisdom to lead the people, so they would know the difference between right and wrong.”(1Kings 3:5-9 paraphrased) According to Hindson and Yates “Hebrew wisdom literature taught people not only how to make good choice s in life but how to make godly choices.” (p.259) Proverbs shows many parallels and contrasts, usually in a two sentence form. In this essay we will look at the teachings of Hebrew wisdom on diligence and laziness, and how it corresponds with the contrast between wisdom and folly.
When a child receives an emotional wound, it often creates an ‘infection’ that they must spend their lives overcoming and growing beyond. Mary Karr lived through a very difficult childhood and adolescence, and her reaction to it and attempts to escape from the pain caused a self-perpetuating cycle of pain and addiction in her life. Eventually, she realized that her dependency on alcohol was hurting her son and causing her to act like her mother, so she, reluctantly, turned to others and eventually the Lord for help. She learned to pray and submit instead of depend on herself and it radically changed her life. She never would have expected it when she was young, but over time praying became as necessary to her as breathing.
Proverbs 2:6-8, "It is the Lord who gives wisdom; from him come knowledge and understanding. He provides help and protection for righteous, honest men. He protects those who treat others fairly, and guards those who are devoted to him."
As the outreach coordinator for Christ UMC, Jeanna-Mar researches worthy causes for the church members to invest in, resources various items sent to her, and counsels individuals and recommends them to additional programs where they can receive more help. She overcame many struggles, which she always called opportunities from the Lord. And it was those struggles that made her an amazing counselor, mother and friend. She walked hand and hand with many women of our church watching and guiding them to a closer relationship with Jesus. Her personal and professional life was a quest to give back to people what she found in recovery. To teach everyone that life is a series of events the
God has worked in her heart to study discipleship. She wants to reach out to others and help them.
Patient strongly believes that faith plays an important part in his health, but he knows that he could also do much more for himself in order to improve his health. Mr. Ferrell quotes, “I can’t expect God to help me if I don’t help myself” (Ferrel, 2013). Praying and honoring God does fullfil his spiritual needs but it does not magically improve his health. He mentioned that his weakness is food and as a result he struggles with his diabetic and renal diets; eating healthier could improve the patient’s health. Mr. Ferrell believes and knows that he needs to treat his body better as God has been so merciful with him and considers his eating habits a sin. As a retired man, he finds time to do many Church activities that benefit both the community and himself. He likes doing community services as it helps release some stress caused by his illness. Being involved in Church has taken him to Jerusalem, which to him was the most wonderful experience. Traveling has played an important role for him but cannot do so often due to his dependency of a machine to clean his blood. What went well
The book of Proverbs is a collection of proverbs, poems, and parables written by King Solomon in efforts to teach wisdom to God’s people. Although I would not deem myself to be an extremely religious person, I believe I identify with with Proverbs the most because whether you are religious or not this book of biblical wisdom teaches many moral lessons that can be applied for a better life and connect with many contemporary issues. This is important on a grander scale as well because as many people of my generation see the Bible as something that should only be read and applied to your life if you believe in God, but these verses reveal that they can used to teach you how to live a good life in this day of age regardless of religious background by looking at the Bible as a literary source instead of solely just a religious one.
