Though, we do not do this in order to seek God as if He is lost, rather we are the ones who are lost and have wandered away from God. There is always something that prevents us, or impedes us from finding God, and we must work our way around it to meet Him. Seeking God is finding our way through or around these obstacles. One of the more noticeable obstacles is science, though religion and science can coexist without any conflict, there is a growing number of the religiously unaffiliated and atheist. In the last seven years the they have grown seven points, and now 23% of America considers themselves among the religiously unaffiliated (Pew Research Center). Beth Moore, and American evangelist and founder of Living Proof Ministries states that there are five major things that keep us from God: unbelief, pride, idolatry, prayerlessness, and legalism (Moore). Unbelief is not only not choosing to belief in God, but also not living a holy life like the Way God wants you to. To overcome belief one must get to know God. For example, one needs to pray and ask God for His help, and one could read Scripture or talk to a priest for help. The next big obstacle is pride. We have seen that the United States has become slightly less religious in the past seven years. Also, we have looked at how people tended to seek God in the past as well as how they seek God today, and the five major obstacles seeking God: unbelief, pride, idolatry, prayerlessness, and legalism. We have also looked at the religious people and they tended to be more satisfied with their lives. In my life I am seeking many things, one of them being God. But the most prominent thing I am seeking is success. Success in many parts of my live. For example, I wish to be successful in life, but to achieve that I must do other things first, like be successful at school and to be an intelligent person, at being a good friend and family member, and being a moral person. I love how Ralph Waldo Emerson, a famous American author, poet, and philosopher, defines success: “To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate the beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.
