Long Walk To Water is about Salva, an 11-year-old boy who used to live in Southern Sudan in 1985. Salva ran away from his home because soldiers destroyed his village. This is the reason why Salva is lucky to find his uncle. First, he was lucky to find his uncle because he brought him to the refugee camp. He was also lucky when he came to America.
In the fiction novel, “A Separate Peace” by John Knowles, there are plenty of characteristics exposed from the setting about the character Finny. How the setting of the novel helps reveal the character Finny is by the way he reacts towards his education, sports, and friends. He and a friend, Gene, go back fifth-teen years as if they were still at Devon High School, which is a boarding school for boys only.
Linda Sue Park wrote a novel A Long Walk to Water based on Salva's story. Salva is only 11 years old when the Second Sudanese war had started. Salva had to run away from his village, leaving his family and everything he knew. Salva has to demonstrate determination, courage, and persistence in order to survive the grueling journey to Ethiopia.
In Linda Sue Park’s book A Long Walk To Water, the main character learned that one with hope and persistence will go far in their life. The main character had hope and persistence on his journey when he lost loved ones during the war, went to the refugee camp, and to his “new” family in the United States of America. The main character showed that he had hope and persistence to keep him moving throughout this marjory journey. Slava faced many struggles in his journey, some were mentally hard to overcome them like losing loved ones. In the book A Long Walk To Water by Linda Sue Park on page 65 “Marial and Uncle were no longer by his side…”
Have you ever had to survive on your own? Because in this book “ A Long Walk To Water ” by Linda Sue Park two kids named Salva and Nya had to survive on their own. According to Webster survival means the continuation of life or existence problems of survival in arctic conditions. My definition of survival is to succeed in staying alive against others.
The book has lots of different times where I feel I am personally connected with the story or can make connections with the characters or setting. The setting of the book is in an old rural town where there isn’t many people. The town is constantly being described in further detail throughout the book. The more the town is described, the more it reminds me of the little old towns we passed on our way done to Coffs Harbour in NSW. In particular, this one that ran down a river with a sugar can mill all old buildings and a dodgy road. It matched the exact description of the town in the book. Also in the book the main character and his brother Keith always spend afternoon with their dad eating chips or special special treats.
In Linda Sue Park’s A Long Walk to Water, the characters teach readers that one with hope and persistence will go far in life. Salva and his tribe continue to face the same problems over and over again, like the challenges the war brings, success, or even the loss of close family and friends. Show the readers that each time they succeed is a miracle. The characters actions and opinions towards the struggles they face, makes it clear to the readers what the main idea is in the novel, A Long Walk to Water.
Even though the ride to Yosemite was grueling, the main character learned a valuable life lesson that he will carry for the rest of his life. The main character ventured on a long, tiring ride, learned an important lesson, and discovered how they play together. After his bike ride to Yosemite he learns his lessons on the difficulties of life. He will carry the lessons he learned with him onto future adventures. He will also never venture onto such a grueling task based on other people's views.
As the Joad family progresses on their journey through the country, the characters transform and develop along with the plot. One character in particular has the largest transformation, where their whole personality changes, being Rose of Sharon. In the beginning of the novel, Rose of Sharon would only spend time with Connie, and he would be the only person she had real concerns for. Whenever she would speak it would be selfish, or relating to Connie. One quote that demonstrates the selfishness that Rose of Sharon possessed at the beginning of the book is “The world had drawn close around them, and they were in the center of it, or rather Rose of Sharon was in the center of it with Connie making a small orbit around her” (p.176). This quote truly shows how self-centered she was by saying the world revolves around her.
One early settler in Rhode Island was Roger Williams (a founder of Rhode Island) who was banished from the Massachusetts Bay Colony. He was banished because he spoke out against the Court of Massachusetts. Williams had spoken out against the rule of the Court, he questioned the right of authorities to punish religious bickering, and the right to take away Indians land. Another founder was Anne Hutchinson, who was also banished from the Massachusetts Bay Colony, for religious reasons. Rhode Island officially became a state in 1790 on May 29.
Films communicate cultural messages. The 1960s were a time of social rebellion and dissonance, as a younger generation coming of age in a time of war and unrest came to call into question the mores of their parents and authority figures. The Graduate portrays relationships, coming of age, expectations, moral dilemmas, values, and sexuality and among many other issues that were relevant in the 1960’s. The main character, Benjamin, is the pride of his wealthy Southern California suburbanite parents and they expect nothing but the best from their beloved son.
Assessment Type 2 – Text Analysis – Novel: How are the ideas, experiences, values and beliefs of these characters from the divine wind relevant to you and the others today?
Former Senator Jim Webb once said, “World War II brought the Greatest Generation together. Vietnam tore the Baby Boomers apart” (AARP). This can be seen as a greater metaphor for the novel The Things They Carried. This is especially prevalent when comparing relationships in the book. While all can agree that war is hell, it is Vietnam that really changed how war was seen through the eyes of the soldiers. In the novel, Curt Lemon represents the classic Greatest Generation attitude; his friendship with Rat Kiley also reflects this. They have a more traditional friendship. However, Mark Fossie and his girlfriend, Mary Anne Bell, represents the polar opposite: the torn apart Baby Boomer generation, living in the entropy of war.
