On 8/20/17, at approximately 1908 hours, I was dispatched to 1350 Healing Place, Oviedo, Seminole County in reference to two missing juveniles. Upon arrival I spoke with Jessica Weaver (Youth Counselor @ facility), who reported two juveniles ran away and left the property. Jessica provided a letter written by Amber, which was given to Nathaniel. Amber conspired with Nathaniel that they should run away today, because she would have her cell phone. Amber wrote in the letter, that they would call a ride to pick them up, but did not provide any location of where they are going. Jessica provided information that Nathaniel is on probation. Jessica also reported that the two juveniles were outside when they decided to run; she reported that 20 minutes
A mysterious airplane arrives at gate 2B of the airport. It was not supposed to be there. It did not show up on the radar, It was not a scheduled flight, and all airplanes were accounted for. It just appeared. There was no one on board except 36 babies. This is a piece of the book The Missing: Found by Margaret Peterson. While this story takes place in a unique, interesting, and unrealistic setting, it still has a universal theme to it. The author shows that the characters can make strong friendships through character and plot development.
Americans hear about all sorts of murders on the news almost every day. It is not strange for us. However, murder of two young children by their own mother is astounding news. In the case of Susan Smith, no matter how she claims she was not in her right mind that night she murdered her children, she is definitely not a victim. There are many alternatives to relieving your duty as a mother. Murder should not be on top of a mother’s list even if she was mentally ill.
The Great Arizona orphan abduction by Linda Gordon illustrates major issues in the western borderlands’ that dealt with evolution of racial discrimination, class structure and gender roles. Gordon gives a historical view of the crisis over orphan adduction over interracial adoption in the Arizona mining community of Clifton-Morenci. The crucial idea Gordon dictates is racial identity and gender issues. How the family roles change when Anglo and Mexican women integrate to the frontier. How women molded the western borderlands by influence on race relations. women submitted join the men in the mining community. Once women arrived, they began to cultivate the standards in Clifton-Morenci. This process confirmed racial separations between Anglos and Mexicans.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a key figure in the civil rights movements that took place in the 1950s and 1960s. The “Letter from a Birmingham Jail” is an open letter written by King defending nonviolent resistance against racism. The letter argued that people have a moral responsibility to break unjust and unethical laws. The letter also stresses themes of unity among brothers in order to overcome racism. I will argue in support of King’s stance that citizens are morally justified in breaking unjust laws and that openly and responsibly opposing unjust laws is itself a duty of every citizen.
In the video “The Lost Children of Rockdale County” produced by Dretzin and Goodman in 1999, portrays the life of teenagers engaging in peer delinquency, sexual behavior, and drugs and alcohol consumption. The video portrays the life of Nicole a 14 year old female who had engaged in sexual behavior, delinquent activity and lived under lack pf parental supervision. The General Theory of Crime and Delinquency is defined as “Motivations for crime include reinforcements for criminal activity, exposure to successful criminal models, learnijng beliefs favorable to crime” (Frailing & Harper, 2013. p.156). Robert Agnew’s theory can be related into Nicole’s life, because the environment in which she grew clearly affected the five domains explained in the theory. The family domain was affected because Cindy’s (Nicole’s mother) lack of parental attachment during Nicole’s infancy affected the relationship. Nicole argues that she started to engage in a risky behavior because she wanted to obtain her mother’s attention because her mother worked full time and didn’t had time to monitor her behavior.
Fifty years ago today, Dr Martin Luther King, Jr. penned his now famous “Letter from Birmingham Jail”. On this anniversary, Erin Wilson reflects on what this important document can still teach us today.
Everyone liked her, she seemed to just brighten people’s day. She was someone who would call her friends when she got home, letting them know she got home safe. She bought her childhood home from her mom, months earlier, off of Highway 37. (Cobb, C) The night of her disappearance, she was out with her friends. When Jessica got home, she called her friends to let them know she made it home safe. No one realized it would be the last time they saw or even heard from her. Russell Williams videotaped what he did to her. She was blindfolded, and then he photographed her trying on her lingerie. He drove her to his house in Tweed, ON, and tortured her there. He ended her life with several blows to the head with the flash light and then he suffocated her. (Cobb,
On 6/9/17 at 1252 Hrs. Officer Villalpando was dispatched to a juvenile problem 1608 10th St. Caller, Nicholas Allen advised that his son, Kaden Boyd (14) who was currently on house arrest, “cut” off his ankle monitor and was last seen getting into a black passenger car. Officer Villalpando arrived and met with Mr. Allen who told him that Kaden had been missing once before while in the Austin area, and that Kaden was involved with the criminal element believing his son is traveling to Austin with an older male, Michael Tabler who had recently been arrested.
At 5:30 SA Lyn Brumaire received another call from Officer Tabiri that another resident named Marielle Fisher may know the whereabouts of Ms. Lee. Upon knocking on the door of suite 805, no one answered so officer Tabiri asked me to key into the room. Ms. Fisher was not present but her suite mate, Ms. Neali Rogers was. Ms. Rogers communicated that Ms. Fisher had gone home for the weekend.
The safety of the youth in his incarceration depends on factors that may go way back to family and may be less related to (although supplementary to) institutional conditions as the Keeping Kids Safe (KKS) (2009) research study of Judy Finlay showed.
In the beginning of this letter my Dr. Martin Luther King, he begins by addressing his fellow religious leaders concern about his activities. Apparently they didn’t agree with his actions, but he writes in his letter that as the conditions in the south have reached an apex of racial intolerance. Specifically in Birmingham, where he is imprisoned for a nonviolent protest.
Jerilyn, a teenager within the ABC Primetime Video The Lost Children Behind Bars committed a variety of different minor crimes throughout her years ranging from trespassing, disorderly conduct, marijuana use, and habitual truancy (Emsnyc12, 2012). Along with these minor crimes, Jerilyn had also committed a very serious criminal offense of child molestation against her nephew, which led to her being put into the Adobe Mountain Juvenile Corrections Facility (Emsnyc12, 2012). With that being said, her criminal behavior can very much be attributed to substantial events that occurred within her life at a very young age. At six years old, Jerilyn was molested by her mother’s boyfriend and this lasted for an entire month. (Emsnyc12, 2012). Soon after this molestation occurred, various changes within Jerilyn’s life began to emerge, as one may suspect. She soon began to turn to crime as a way to deal with this terrible life event and began smoking marijuana, using alcohol, and skipping school as well as not coming home for long periods of time (Emsnyc12, 2012). Jerilyn being molested by her mother’s boyfriends had a profound impact on her life and can very much be a leading factor in her committing her own act of child molestation on her nephew, who was six at the time (Emsnyc12, 2012). From a very young age, after the molestation occurred, Jerilyn was emerged into a life of crime, with the final act of child molestation landing her in the Adobe Mountain Juvenile Corrections
Martin Luther King Jr., a peaceful advocate for civil rights, was jailed for his non-violent protest against segregation. During his stay at the Birmingham Jail, a group of religious leaders publically attacked him with criticisms for his peaceful protest. As a counter attack, King wrote 'The Letter From Birmingham Jail'. This counter was successful for King was able to analyze and address his audience, refer to historical and religious figures and utilize anaphoras, making this letter, one of the most impressive argumentative essays.
It is clear that the neighborhood surrounding the family believe that Jessica herself, as well as her family are crazy after the few encounters that they experience, because they that result in poor outcomes. Parallel, to
Freedom. Independence. Liberty. Right. Opportunity. Each word shares the same meaning. Freedom is the ability to do, say, and think as one chooses. Unfortunately, freedom, justice, and equality have not always been as omnipresent as they are today. Without these qualities, a society can easily be filled with unrest. Where justice is lacking, tensions rise and there is little room for social progress. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s “Letter from Birmingham Jail” explains how equality is needed in order to make social progress and also shares some of the detrimental effects of injustice. In the graphic novel Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi, the restriction of freedoms by the government causes riots and rebellions to break out that end up having lasting
