Throughout the first seven episodes of Scandal characters seem diverse on the surface, however I think they are represented in a very artificial plot line that is the American political system. For example, in the second episode, “Dirty Little Lies”, when information appears to be connected to the Oval Office and President Grant’s first supreme Court nominee, Olivia bolts to the White House, but is denied access. To me this is such irony because people of color, especially black women have been limited to such power positions within the white male patriarchal world. Olivia Pope is now a professional ‘fixer’, who runs a consulting firmed called Olivia Pope and Associates (OPA). Olivia makes problems go away before anyone even knows they exist. Olivia is a legend in her field fixing problems for the moneyed, the powerful and even the President of the United States. I love this show because of the power this one women has to fix any problem thrown at her. She eats, breaths, sleeps crisis and still has the time to have the President of the United States wrapped around her finger. She is a role model and super hero all wrapped into one; the ultimate feminist. She knows that she’s good at her job and she is not intimidated by anyone.
