This left the power of collaboration to a select few, instead of being forced upon the entire surviving population of Nanking. Amongst the big organizational collaborators, there were also some very prominent individuals who rose to the occasion to exercise their own powers under the Japanese occupation. Wang Chengdian, also known as “ The Famous Jimmy Wang,” was one of these individual collaborators. Wang was previously a famous auctioneer in Nanjing and once the Japanese occupation occurred, he became the new food commissioner under the SGC but was also the business manager for the IC. Heated debates took place in Japan over what really happened during their occupation in Nanking, bringing about a revival of Chinese and Taiwanese research. The Japanese caused a protest by the Chinese people when they changed the phrase “Invaded” China with “advanced into China.” One clearly gives off a more positive notation to what the Japanese were doing infiltrating Chinese borders in the first place. They were merely “advancing” through China. Debatable documents were released on both sides, releasing “evidence” of what each country believed really took place. In 1982 a photo magazine released into schools and libraries in China and Japan. This magazine in Chinese read” An Iron Mountain of Testimony of Heinous Crimes in the Japanese Army’s Invasion of China,” and in Japanese it read “Unshakeable Proof of the Japanese Army’s Invasion of China.” The result was consecutive releases of more and more magazines like this portraying the horrific acts of the Nanking Atrocity. This publication was available to both Chinese and Japanese citizens, and would cause even more protest on both sides. The KMT created a History Compilation Committee to organize and compile a large amount of documentation that would to prove what events took place during the Japanese occupation of Nanking. In August 1985, a monument called the Memorial Hall of the Victims of the Nanking Massacre was created in Nanking. The largest inscription on the sight says very clearly the number “300,000” and next to it says “victims” in three different languages.
