In the book Outliers, sociologist Annette Lareau states that concerted cultivation is a middle class “parenting style” that attempts to actively “foster and assess a child’s talents, opinions and skills,” granting the child earlier advantages such as self esteem and additional education (Gladwell 104). In Rowling’s early childhood, she was often encouraged by those around her to write when she first showed an affinity towards writing. Both of Rowling’s parents were very fond of reading, and Rowling remembers that her childhood house was full of books, giving Rowling endless books to read ("JK Rowling Biography." , Bibliography). Her grandmother often praised her writing and gave her an autobiography of a female writer by the name of Jessica Mitford, inspiring Rowling to become a writer as well (“People’s World.”). By having parents who were fond of reading and an environment that gave her unlimited access to books, Rowling was exposed to what would later become her passion early on. Like her parents, Rowling learned to love reading, and her grandmother even encouraged her, pushing Rowling on the path of becoming a writer. As Rowling grew older, she would create stories specifically tailored for each of her friends during lunchtime, all centered around heroic deeds. Her friends were delighted to hear themselves placed into one of Rowling’s stories, and Rowling would constantly think of new and exciting tales in order to please them ("J. K. Rowling Biography." -

Back in 1990, JK Rowling was inspired to write the Harry Potter series while on a delayed train ride to London’s King Cross (Bloomsbury). She began writing the first notes for the future series, amassing thousands of paper notes about the possible story. Finally, in 1997 Ms. Rowling released the first book in the series, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone through Bloomsbury Publishers (Bloomsbury). The book soon became a bestseller and “the Harry Potter series is now published in 78 languages, with over 450 million copies sold across the world” (Bloomsbury). This popular series has also inspired eight movies, a play, and a themed amusement park.
She herself has written 45 books. The first book she wrote was called Little House in the Big Woods (littlehousebooks.com). She was an author from years 1932-1943. Most of her books were written from her own experience. Many enjoyed her books and still do (biography.com).
The role of a producer in the filmmaking process involves financial and technical responsibilities, as well as creative responsibilities. As the industry evolved, producers were typically associated with the financial and technical side of filmmaking, more so than the creative side. However, in the last three decades, more and more producers are being recognized for their creative involvement (Pardo 2). In 1997, David Heyman, a British film producer, discovered the book Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by J.K. Rowling (McNary). Almost immediately, Heyman began working to secure the film rights, having no idea that he was embarking on a project that, according to IMDb, would become the highest grossing film franchise in history (IMDb). His creative involvement, on the production of the films, stems from the fact that he truly loves the Harry Potter book series. The success of the franchise had much to do with what can be referred to as the “Potter formula”: Heyman’s direct involvement in the novel to film adaption process, his decision to work with a team of Potter fans, many of which returned to work on all 8 installments, and his careful selection of directors who shared his vision. This “Potter Unit” of returning cast and crew members included writer Steve Kloves, production designer Stuart Craig, the majority of cast members, as well as many more. Having produced all
Rejection. Success: The J. K. Rowling Story, 2015). Still, she kept persevering until she had another unfortunate event during the work of her first book. We have all heard of the Harry Potter book series written by J.K. Rowling. And even though the series is extremely popular, there is still controversy as to the intention and meaning of the books. In this evaluation, I will explain how the book’s character’s relationships, plot, and theme live up to my expectation of a “life lesson” work. I understand how the word “witchcraft” can maybe be taken to mean idol rituals to some, but Rowling is conveying good morals through a fictional story. The Harry Potter books do not portray Satanism or occultism ideas, but teaches morality, love for others, and virtues.
