Joanne Rowling is an extremely influential person, and is admired by many people. I chose to write about her because she is one of my favorite authors, and she has a very interesting life. She was born on July 31, 1965, and lived with her mom, dad, and sister, Dianne. Rowling grew up surrounded by books, as her parents loves to read. “I lived for books… I was your basic common-or-garden bookworm, complete with freckles and National Health Spectacles” (harrypotter.bloomsbury.com). Rowling wrote her first book at the age of six. The book was about a rabbit, named Rabbit. When she was 11, she wrote a book about seven cursed diamonds, and the people who owned them. Her love for books certainly paid off on the long run!

Rowling first had the idea for Harry Potter while delayed on a train for four hours travelling from Manchester to London King 's Cross in 1990. The idea first started with the thought of a young boy attending a school of magic. Rowling said that she didn’t have pen at that time, so she just kept on thinking about what the book would be about, and frankly, if she should actually write the books. We can see now that the answer was yes! Over the next five years, she began to plan out the seven books of the series. She wrote mostly in longhand and amassed a mountain of notes, many of which were on scraps of paper (harrypotter.bloomsbury.com).
Somehow, the Mt. Everest of notes turned into an award winning book. Although several publishers reject the book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher 's Stone was published on 30 June 1997 (harrypotter.bloomsbury.com). The books have gained immense popularity, critical acclaim, and commercial success worldwide. “Nothings impossible if you’ve got enough nerve.” -J.K Rowling (BrainyQuote.com). Many people know that Rowling does not have a middle name. J.K Rowling is simply her pen name. Rowling adds the “K” from her deceased grandmother, Kathleen to make her pen name, J.K Rowling.
