1.What I believe the book is saying about people is fear and responsibility. I believe the book is talking about fear because of what happened on the island. When they were on the island, the had to act and think quickly, the actions that the groups made were not worth it. They made bad decisions because of the fear they were feeling in that time. One example of fear is when they just get on the island and the whole group start feeling fear and they do not know what to do. I believe the book is talking about responsibility because of the decisions and actions of the group. When this huge group got on the island, they had to start thinking as an adult does. If they wanted to get out of the island and be rescued, the only thing that they had …show more content…
I am going to ask Ralph about the experience he has lived. He will tell us how did it feel being with jack and other teammates. As we know Ralph is considered as a smart person and a great leader. He also will tell us more about his invention. Joaquin: How would you describe jack in a few words? Ralph: I would describe him as a manipulate person and an aggressive person. Joaquin: What do you think about the choir kids? Ralph: I think that they do not know what they are doing. If there had been adults on the island, all would have been easier and quicker. Joaquin: Can you tell me more about you ‘invention’? Ralph: What I wanted to do was a large signal fire on top of the mountain, that way some ship could see the fire on the mountain. Joaquin: What about Simon? What can you tell me about him? Ralph: Simon is very kind and wise, he was one of the few people who did not bother and helped me. 5. I think ralph has a huge change throughout the story because at the start of the story he starts with a big personality; organized, calm, and confident. At first, When Ralph is on the island he knew or at least he had in his mind all he had to do in order to get rescued. Throughout the story, Ralph starts forgetting his ideas of how to get rescued and his personality starts decreasing, then he starts blaming other …show more content…
The miracle fire signal Boys were rescued after a hard days on the island. When a ship was passing by, the captain saw a big fire on the island. This ship immediately went to rescued these boys, who most of them were innocent children. A group of kids were rescued after a hard time with a lot of savagery. When the naval officer saw them on the island, he got surprised for the way the boys were telling him the things that have happened. Then, when the group of kids told them about the people who have died, the naval officer kept repeating himself the same question; ‘How could you guys have lost (Ralph looking at the naval officers) the rules of civilization’? This group explained the official how did the get there and why. The boy explained him that it was because of an airplane crush. 7.The character that I would have as a friend is Simon. I would have Simon as a friend because of his traits. He is the wisest kid on the island, you can see it because of the way he communicates to people and for the important fact that he was the first to realize posed by the
Not having been rescued yet has finally had a told on Ralph who seems to be getting more impatient as days pass by. Essentially what happens is he orders an assembly to take place where he will discuss with the group of boys how they need to follow orders how they need to do this or that in order to get rescued and at this point the boys no longer want to listen to him. They think he has "too many things" to say so they want to replace him. It was a great move for Ralph to do, remind the boys they need to take part being rescued. However, because at the beginning of when they were first on the island he had been a fun a chief they are not used to the idea of him wanting things to be done. They do not respect him anymore. They do not want to
Ralph immediately established rules and assured the boys that they would be rescued if they could keep a fire going. Ralph explained that if they could keep a fire going then they could use the smoke to signal passing ships to alert them of their presence on the island. Later, Ralph was observing the horizon and spotted smoke. Ralph quickly came to the realization that the smoke was coming from a ship. Then, he notices that the boys that were supposed to be monitoring the fire had let it die out.
Ralph said, "Who wants me? Ralph counted. 'I'm chief then." (pg. 17) This is a positive change in Ralph’s character because he began to take charge of the group and make new rules and decisions. Ralph made the decisions for the group and began to gain control over Jack by telling him what and what not to do. Ralph and the other boys went into a venture on the island, “three of us will go on an expedition and find out. I'll go, and Jack, and Simon." (pg. 17) This venture really didn’t change Ralph but it was the first night on the island and they discovered where everything was and what the island looked like.
“Listen, everybody. I’ve got to have time to think things out. I can’t decide what to do straight off. If this isn’t an island we might be rescued straight away. So we’ve got to decide if this is an island. Everybody must stay round here and wait and not go away. Three of us-if we take more we’d get all mixed, and lose each other-three of us will go on an expedition and find out. I’ll go, and Jack, and Simon.” (Golding, 24) The boys find that they are indeed on an island using Ralph’s intuition. “There’s no village smoke, and no boats,” said Ralph wisely. “We’ll make sure later; but I think it’s uninhabited.” (Golding, 30) Ralph concludes that they are alone on the island. Again we see Ralph using his leadership qualities to help the group
Ralph, being the strong minded, civilised individual that he is, tries to form a society that is based off of survival. He incorporated everyone into the survival plan making sure that each survivor has their own job to make the island run
Most of the boys respect him and listen to what he says, but some people like Jack refuse to listen to any suggestions he has for the group. The reader reacts to Ralph as someone we can put hope in to help rescue the boys. Ralph interacts with the boys as a determined leader. He thinks about all the survival things that the boys need to work on to benefit from being on the island. He is different from everyone else on the island in so many ways.
They are stranded on an island with no parental supervision due to their plane being shot down. They all have to strive to survive and work together to be rescued. Ralph seems to be the best fit leader for the group of boys, as he has a lot of the characteristics that a leader needs. He took it upon himself to be that leader figure which is courageous and a big duty to fill. Ralph was worried and focused on everything instead of just one thing like the others.
Ralph possesses the aspect of being the most responsible individual on the island. He takes ownership for his peculiar actions as a leader. In the very beginning, Ralph obtained the role of being chief. Thus; later on in the novel, he takes full responsibility by
All the boys are scared of the forest, but he goes in alone to pray and have peace away from everyone else. The other boys looked up at him. Ralph always looked up to him. He envied the way Simon kept calm and kept order in tough situations. He admired the way Simon was kind and always helped others.
Another quality that Ralph possesses is that he takes control in a situation. He can proceed with both sense and caution. He makes sure that the group is always focus. When they discovered the castle, he investigates the castle alone. He works vigilantly to keep the group’s focus on the hope for rescue. Over time Ralph starts to lose his power
His identity has changed while being on the island in the way that he thinks about ‘thinking’, he now associates it with results, as indicated by the quote above. This shows how dedicated he is to try to bring some comfort to the boys while they wait to be rescued, which retains his main goal throughout the novel. However, Ralph's identity or sense of self continues to change the way he thinks and acts through further events in the
Simon grows to be a social outcast on the island; when the group crash-lands, he is trusted, but he distances from the group the more time progresses. After Ralph is elected leader at the beginning of the novel, Simon is chosen as one of three boys to go on an exploration that will help Ralph choose a course. Very early on, Simon is trusted by Ralph, as “he looked round the circle of eager faces. There was no lack of boys to choose from. ‘And Simon’”
The boys had to reassemble their whole life styles for the time of being stuck on the island. They definitely did not know if they were going to survive. Not all of them did survive. There are two characters in the book that could be argued are good leaders. Those characters are pretty
At the same time, Ralph’s fear of being isolated on the island was rapidly developed especially when his negative personality started to emerge. However, Ralph was introduced as a kind boy whose respectful character
Ralph's common sense and ability to recognize what is best for the group also shows his excellent leadership skills. His main focus throughout the book is getting rescued and tells the boys to make a fire and to keep it burning to make a signal. However, the boys do not listen and he becomes angry. "The fire is the most important thing on the island. How can we ever be rescued except by luck, if we don't keep the fire going?" (p. 86) Ralph's determination to get rescued is not only for himself, but for everyone else
