This job shadow was one of my most challenging, yet most enjoyable assignments this semester. There were parts that surprised me, and parts that inspired me, but overall this was one of my favorite assignments ever. This assignment was difficult for me since I am usually a very introverted person, and this task pushed me to come out of my shell a little more than I normally feel comfortable with. I was compelled to take initiative in conversations in order to obtain the information I needed which was very difficult for me. At the same time, it was also very entertaining for me as I could examine how an architect thinks through, and designs buildings and other structures right in front of my eyes. Going into this assignment, I expected it was …show more content…
Despite the demands, I believe that the positives outweigh the negatives and I still want to pursue this field. Mr. Barber said that thinking on the fly is one of the most difficult parts of his job that he struggles with in his day-to-day work. He also said that people skills are a very important part of this job. You need to know how to communicate efficiently and effectively, or entire projects can fall apart, which adds an immense amount of stress to the job. One last point that is challenging about becoming an architect is all the training. Most architects need 5 years of college, and must undergo a tremendous amount of after college training that is very rigorous and challenging. At first the thought of all this training scared me a little bit, but then I remembered the picture of the kids in Africa at the hospital, and that gave me the desire to continue in this dream of mine. I know that pursuing this field will be challenging, but I believe it will be worth it in the end. If I sincerely wish to pursue this field I need to come up with a plan of action. First, I would like to do some research over the summer, and hopefully find a summer course on architecture. Mr. Barber also recommended to do more shadowing. In fact, he sent me the contact info for a few firms here in town. I believe that this would give me a solid background in
With the amount of devotion I have towards creative designs and architecture, I strongly believe I am ready to overcome the challenges I might face when I pursue my degree studies in architecture and allow me to achieve my ambition as a successful architect in the
In 1948, atof the Summer Olympics in London, Great Britain, architecture was part of one of the events (Sports-Reference). An architect is someone that designs and builds houses for people to live in or work in. Architects usually work in offices where they meet their clients, but occasionally they must travel to construction sites. They also must know how to design structures, know building and construction knowledge, and be able to analyze the environment. If someone is interested in becoming an architect, they need to know the different degrees needed to obtain, the specific skills needed and the demand and salary for the desired location (BLSbls).
Life happens in a blink of an eye. Changes in life can be threatening and scary to some, but I vision it as an opportunity for a new beginning of an adventure. My future holds a lot of potential from my diligence, integrity, and leadership, and these opportunities will shine in my career. One opportunity that I want to receive in my lifetime is earning the position as an engineering manager at a high-end company. The reason I would want this transformation in my life is that I can demonstrate all my potential through my hard work and have the positive impacts of a manager.
Job shadowing is great way to get a sense of what it’s truly like working specific job. Before showing up to my shadowing assignment, doing a little homework wouldn't hurt.Taking a look at what the company requires, their competitors as well as the position of the person you're tailing so you have context on your new experience.
My interests are anything that has to do with building or Engineering. In the future I would enjoy to accomplish many of my goals such as graduating high school then go to a community college then Transfer to a four year college. Travel around to many countries as I can. After High school I would like to find a job and start saving up money to buy an apartment for me to live in for two years then move out the valley after those two years.
Last year, I was very fortunate to visit the Vatican museum (Rome) in pursuit for an inspirational artist to boost my marks for my artist research. Consequently, it was there where I realised that an Italian Renaissance, Michelangelo, uses the structure of the building to his advantage. I did further research of the painter for my 'thought of the day' - school presentation (ASDAN), and realised that he, himself was an architect. So what does it take to become an architect? Confidence, adaptability, passion and creativity; these four personality traits, in my opinion, are essential for architects.
At first my intended major was business; however, I decided to look at the engineering majors, so I attended an open day for the Schools of Sciences and Engineering last February and that was a turning point in my major choice. That day, the words of the chair of architecture impressed me when he said and I quote, “there is nothing better than entering a building of your own design”, impressed me. Then, I realized that architecture should be my intended major. The chair’s words and the architecture students’ work, sketches, and 3D models fascinated me. I wanted to do those things; therefore, I decided that I will major in architecture and that I will do my best to become an architect despite that fact that I was a terrible sketcher. I also decided that I would not give up on business. I decided that I will minor in business.
There was a point in my life where I felt like I had nothing. I had been kicked out, had no job, and wasn’t even sure if I wanted to attend college. Even though I struggled, through determination and hard work, I excelled far above what could’ve been expected and threw myself into photography and journalism. An insurmountable amount of effort has gone into the career I’ve always wished for . Soon, my career is going to change my life and others. My career is going to enable me to practice my craft and do what I am passionate about professionally. The general public will become better informed as I will strive to always share the truth. Thought provoking and unique content is the only thing I plan on putting out..
Everyone has a story behind who they are as a person and how it affected them throughout their life. When my Grandpa passed away it affected me greatly because he was there for me through the good times and the bad times. For example, when I broke my bike by popping the chain off it made me very sad but he helped me fix it. Another time was when I got good grades in school he was very happy and took me out for ice cream to celebrate my success. He also taught me the importance of exercising and how it leads to a healthier life style. My grandfather is the reason that I am seeking a career in computer engineering.
Five years ago, I was a young teenage boy who had no idea what he wanted to do. Now, I am a young adult who is still a little lost. Over this time, it is hard to pick what has changed because so much is different about me. At the age of thirteen, I started realizing that some of my crazy career goals for the future were not going to happen, such as being an NHL player or playing in the NBA. I started focusing on academic goals, and I wanted to become a lawyer or an accountant. There has been a great number of different career paths I wanted to follow in the last 5 years. Now I think I have it figured out, I am pursuing a bachelor’s degree in computer science, which is something I really enjoy.
At a point in every person’s childhood they have been asked the question, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Some children stare blankly, as if the inquirer had asked them what the cubed root of 4,096 was; while other children have a more brazen response retorting, “How am I supposed to know? I’m eight.” Nevertheless, there are children who, unperturbed by the question, confidently assert the occupation they dream of doing. When I was asked this question, I responded with only a short, definite statement: anything but a doctor. Until I was around eleven this statement remained true, but in the past five years my career aspirations have evolved. The connection between the different professions has been that every occupation pertains to medicine. I am intrigued by medicine because the
Is there written contracts? Pension plans? Insurance? Vacation pay? If any of this is provided, the work is most likely an employee. If just a contract is provided, it may be just an independent contractor.
My world is not that difficult. I have always known that doing my best in school is important, but for the longest time I did not think it would elapse so quickly. My father, mother, and sister all have found careers that they are fond of, while on the other hand, I have family members that work 12 hour shifts on a Monday through Saturday basis. That way of life is appropriate, but i know it is not something they enjoy. Therefore, my father constantly pushes me toward having careers in mind that I may have a passion for. I thank him for simply helping me find my interest, whether it'd range from sports to careers. He has also influenced and taught me to never be afraid to explore and endeavor in new experiences.
When dealing with the hidden job market you have to realize that you are dealing with millions of employers that have job openings, which you may never see in an ad. Most employers will choose to fill positions without advertising. This process will save them money and time, and it also will helps them to manage who they fill is the suitable person for the job. These could be someone already working for their company or could be a past employee that a staffer refers.
Being a third year architecture student who has just completed my Bachelor of Architecture Studies back in 2014, I was hit by the challenging reality upon my first internship experience in the architecture profession. Although I was equipped with the understanding of theories and concepts taught in the university, the work in the professional practice is complex, which inevitably demands various skills.
