Hello, I’m a student from Vaughn International Studies Academy. We have been given the opportunity to be a part of a job shadowing project in our school for us to know what we want to be in the future. For me it will be an amazing opportunity to job shadow a marine biologist at the aquarium of the pacific because it can prepare us for the future.Doing this project will inspire me to know what I will want to do once I get older, so when I go to college and then get a job as a marine biologist. I would want to see what exactly marine biologist do and what is required to go into this particular field. According to the aquarium's website, the marine biologist there, study and take care of the animals in the exhibits in which I would like to do
"Find out what you like doing best, and get someone to pay you for it." - Katharine Whitehorn. Marine biologists, or zoologist, love animals, and want to have a successful future. The hourly pay for a marine biologist is about $27.74 per hour. A marine biologist/zoologist requires a bachelors degree, communication skills, the ability to work with animals, and an eagerness to experience new things.
My interest in Marine Biology started when I was 8 years at Sea World. I've had a passion with it ever since, watching Shark week on tv and the Deep blue shows. I’m preparing now by taking Biology and Chemistry, I am watching educational shows about the ocean in hopes of discovering more and fulfilling my goals. I want to explore the ocean and discover new sea life. The ocean is very interesting and big just waiting to be explored and discovered. I hope to major in Marine Biology.
The dream of having majored in marine biology is one thing, but to get to have a marine biology degree is a fifth grader’s dream come true. The environment is heading in a rough direction. For example, ocean acidification is already a problem. The decrease in pH of our ocean acidity is causing coral reefs to die out—which houses thousands of organisms’ homes and food sources. Due to the contaminants, we release into the natural environment, we are slowly losing ecosystems every day. Therefore, I want to be the researcher to help save the oceanic life from these horrible conditions. Also, the career of marine biology can take a person anywhere, from the coasts of the Bahamas all the way to the depths of the Arctic Ocean. This provides the advantage
For my job shadow assignment, I was able to work with two professionals. There I worked with were very much the same, yet they were also different. My original plan was to work with one of our very own Oklahoma State ATs and another at a different location but unfortunately, I never got a response back.
For my job shadowing project, I shadowed Dr. Quisto Settle at the Mississippi State University School of Human Sciences department. Dr. Settle is an assistant professor within the department. “An assistant professor ranks as a junior faculty member in a college or university (Assistant Professor).” For my hours, I had spent Tuesday afternoon observing and taking notes while Dr. Settle graded papers and answered some of my questions. Everyday for Dr. Settle is different. Some days, Dr. Settle grades papers and others he advises students. “They will be expected to teach 3-4 classes per semester, serve on various academic committees and contribute to the academic milieu. In turn, they will gain teaching experience and the continued opportunity to publish in their fields (Assistant Professor).”
English is important, too, because one of the most important activities of a marine biologist is writing scientific papers and getting them published. Courses in the aquatic sciences such as fishery biology, ichthyology, and oceanography are also important, as well as courses in your discipline of interest (for instance, ethology if you are interested in animal behavior). Courses in the social sciences are also recommended for occupations that deal mainly with the public, public policies, or
By being able to work with different creatures and animals I am ready to become a marine biologist. Since I was a little girl I have been following in my grandpa’s footsteps by working with animals at his veterinary clinic. I have been very successful in cleaning feces off the floor, feeding the animals, and delivering medication to the doctors. Each and every one of these skills I have shown great practice in and are absolutely vital to succeed. My interpretation of being college and career ready is having certain skills to go to the workplace and shine in the career of your choosing. As a result, my prefered career as a marine biologist requires many skills such as solving tasks with others, evaluating and understanding information, and working with an assortment of people and
All my life I have been exposed to the sea through family trips to Hampton Beach to frequent trips to the Mystic Aquarium. That exposure is what led to my fascination for animals and the ocean. This fascination grew into a passion for the sea and that led me to start seeking different experiences to widen my knowledge. This included Volunteering for the Mystic Aquarium, choosing to go to school at the University of Rhode Island and eventually to applying for a chance to be involved with the top organization in terms of science, service, and stewardship of the climate, weather, oceans, and coasts. With this prestigious honor, I plan to do the summer internship in a different climate near the coast working on a project involving conservation or the effects of human interaction on different species.
On September 16, 2016 I was given the opportunity to job shadow at Shear Perfections in Collins, MS. My mentor was Misty Page, a hair and makeup artist. She was accompanied by her co-owner and they both assisted in making my job shadowing experience wonderful. Misty set up the entire shop before I arrived and my mother was there to guide me. Doing the job shadowing helped me answer questions I would have never been able to answer on my own. Overall, the environment, clients, and experience was something I can not forget.
Marine Biologists have a wide variety of places and jobs that they can apply for. For instance, they could become a teacher and teach people about marine biology or they could be working as a zookeeper and take care of the animals.
When I was chosen from hundreds of applicants to take part in a summer internship with Sea World, I fell even more in love with these gentle giants. I also learned a very important and valuable lesson: prior to this internship, I had imagined becoming a marine biologist, working directly with the animals in their care both in captivity and in the wild. However, during the internship, I discovered that this is not where my strengths lie. Unfortunately, I am not a strong student in science or math, which are required skills to become a marine biologist. Although this was a disheartening realization, I found that I possess other strengths can still be of great value to manatees and other endangered marine mammals: my skills as a public relations manager and communicator. During the internship, I helped write new lessons and presentations for elementary school groups visiting the park and developed a series of fun activities for children to help them learn more about
Hi, we are students from VISA,Vaughn international studies academy. We have been given the opportunity to be a part of a job shadowing project in our school and a group of students have decided that it will be an amazing opportunity to job shadow a marine veterinarian at the aquarium of the pacific. As we have been reminded by our English teacher, we have to look into a possible career that is what we want to do when we go to college and afterward. We need event tickets to Aquarium of the Pacific’s “Marine Biologist Job Shadow Program, Transportation to Long Beach, admission tickets to the Aquarium of the Pacific, and transportation home from Long Beach, and lunch.
If you are interested in adventuring the depths of the ocean, being a marine biologist is the job for you. As a marine biologist you will need to have several years of schooling in order to have a successful career. Being a marine biologist can be an enjoyable and dangerous job, but the journey is worth the ride.
Marine biologists investigate life in the ocean just like ornithologists study birds. Cytologists deal with the structure composition and functions of cells whereas embryologists investigate the formation and development of animals and plants before they become independent organisms.
