Salvatore Lucania was born on November 24, 1897 in Sicily, Italy; almost ten years later, he began a new life of crime and prosperity in New York City’s lower east side. Upon arrival, he could not speak english; he bullied the other kids into paying him for protection and participated in drug dealing. One day, Lucania was abducted, beaten, stabbed, and left for dead; miraculously, he survived. This rather fortunate recovery led him to become known as Lucky Luciano (“Lucky Luciano Biography.com.” Edited by Biography.com, The Biography.Com website, A&E Television Networks, 17 June 2015, www.biography.com/people/lucky-luciano -9388350). In 1916, he became the leader of the Five Points Gang and continued to make a name for himself. During these early years, Luciano was in and out of jail-- mostly for getting caught dealing drugs.
He was known for not staying in jail long because people were scared to testify against him and because he knew the right people. He would put some much fear into people's heart by just being in his presence because that's how powerful he was.The FBI said that Gotti controlled just about every pimp, street gang, prostitute, drug dealer, and drug trafficker in Queens. He controlled 50% to 60% of every criminal and criminal gang in Queens during his time. It was discovered that he had 100,000 soldiers and 350,000 criminal associates in the Gambino Crime Family. The FBI found out that Gotti ordered the deaths of around 600 people. For 7 years, Gotti ruled New York City with an iron fist. Gotti had dozens of Police, Judges, District Attorneys, U.S. Attorneys, and Mayor's in his pocket. According to Sammy Gravano, an informat, Gotti had two NYPD Organized Crime Task Force Detectives, two FBI Agent's, two IRS Agents, two EPA Agents, and one DEA Agent in his pocket. And that's how powerful he was and that's why he was the most powerful crime boss in the world. Despite all those things, he still was a good father and provided for his family. He always put family first and that’s what's important in
Throughout his criminal career he was never connected to any criminal activities and never went to jail. Gambino died of a heart attack in 1976 and his brother-in-law Paul Castellano took over. In 1985, Paul Castellano was murdered based on the command someone in his inner circle, John Gotti. Gotti was the new leader of the Gambino Crime Family with Salvatore “Sammy the Bull” Gravano his second-in-command. Gotti was nicknamed Teflon Don because charges were filed against him but he was never convicted until his underboss Gravano was arrested in 1990 and gave authorities information about Gotti’s criminal activities. He was finally sentenced to life in prison in 1992 and died in 2002 of cancer. His son John Gotti Jr. became the heir to the family crime business until he was
When we think of the mafia and gangs, one name comes to mind, Al Capone. Al Capone, also known as Scarface, was an infamous mafia leader who was active in Chicago during the Prohibition era. Having committed numerous criminal deeds and being the man behind countless murders, Capone was finally arrested for tax evasion . Now, you might ask, “How was he able to commit all these violent deeds without being imprisoned?” Well, we first have to go to the beginning of Capone’s life.
CRITICAL ANALYSIS ON "GODFATHER DEATH", A FAIRY TALE WRITTEN BY JACOB LUDWIG GRIMM AND WILHELM CARL GRIMM
Al Capone, who was born in New York in 1899, was one of the most prominent gangsters in America in the 1920s. He was the son of Italian immigrants, and after leaving school at a young age, became a small-time criminal. Known as ‘Scarface,’ he had links to the leader of the Five Points Gang, Johnny Torrio, and moved to Chicago in 1920, where he gradually rose through the ranks as a partner in saloons, gambling and brothels. They moved their operations to Illinois after an offer to work with Jim Colosimo, a central figure in Chicago’s brothel business. Gang rivalry heated up after a dispute between Torrio and Colosimo over whether to begin in the bootlegging business, and in 1920, Colosimo was murdered allegedly by Al Capone. After this, Torrio’s criminal empire expanded massively throughout Chicago, before leaving in 1925 and handing over operations to Capone. After taking over, Capone expanded operations even further, and was able to control Chicago’s Mayor, ‘Big Bill’ Thompson and fix his elections. A local newspaper from the time reported
One of the greatest films and novels of all time, The Godfather by Mario Puzo is the book that I chose to write my report about. This book falls under the drama and crime fiction genres, due to its dramatic story of people being shot and murdered. The Godfather takes place in New York during the years 1945-1955, right after World War II. Most of the story is written from a narrator 's perspective, save for two points in the book in which the story becomes a first person point of view. One of the themes portrayed in the novel is that family always comes first, even if it isn’t a blood-related family, but a crime family. The novel’s theme is primarily that of loyalty, which is a crucial plot device because some of the Corleone family

He would later leave the Five Points gang (soon afterwards the gang would crumple after key players such as Al Capone and Lucky Luciano left the gang). He would join crime boss Joe Masseria as his chief lieutenant and oversee Masseria’s crime empire. By doing this Luciano would learn the internals of the crime world and how operations worked. He also profited greatly from the operations and would soon become a rich man, he was also running Manhattan’s sole prostitution ring using execution as a manor to keep things under control Along this time he would also be abducted, “beaten, stabbed repeatedly with an ice pick, had his throat slit from ear to ear and was left for dead on a Staten Island beach —but survived” (Encyclopædia
Alphonse Capone, nicknamed Al, was born on January 17, 1899 in Brooklyn, New York. His parents were Gabriele and Teresina Capone who came to America as Italian immigrants. Gabriele was a barber, and Teresina was a seamstress. Al and his 7 siblings grew up in a rough neighborhood which led him to an involvement in “kid gangs”. Capone was a part of two gangs, the Brooklyn Rippers and the Forty Thieves Juniors.
Gotti’s gambling habit was frowned upon by Castellano, who was the mob boss. His actions were noticed by federal agents, so they bugged out the Bergin club in 1981. The FBI had enough dirt to place Gotti under federal indictment for racketeering. After Castellano was gunned down, Gotti became boss. When it came down to getting sentenced, he and his gang were always acquitted of charges. He always fixed the verdict. He got the name Teflon Don because charges “wouldn’t stick”. The FBI finally had the chance to convict John Gotti after they had persuaded the underboss, Sammy Gravano, to testify against
Alphonse Capone, also known as Scarface. Born in Brooklyn New York on January 17, 1899 to Italian immigrants. Al was the fourth of nine children. After dropping out of school at the sixth grade al joined his mentor Johnny Torrio’s street gang, called Street Boys Gang. Then later went to the Five Point Gang. Capone worked for Johnny Torrio and was second in charge. Al did things in between his illegal acts. “Between scams he was a clerk in a candy store, a pin boy in a bowling alley, and a cutter in a book bindery.” (1) Capone did his fair share of legal jobs. He became part of the Five Point Gang, which was in Manhattan and worked in Frankie Yale’s Dive. He did legal work but he also did his dirty work. Capone did his legal work to support his family. His mother didn’t work until his teen-age years. His father was a barber trying to open his own
Gotti became the leader of the gang, but unlike other gangs, was not concerned about territory. His gang was mostly into higher levels of criminality that dealt with fencing stolen goods, stealing automobiles and rolled drunks. While a member of the Fulton-Rockaway Boys, he was arrested five times however all his charges were reduced to probationary sentences. Later in life, Gotti marries Victoria DiGorgio. However marriage does not slow down John Gotti Jr. On a yearly basis, John Gotti committed crimes and was convicted of them. Several of the crimes ranged from grand larceny, hijacking, and murder. Though Gotti was convicted for several of the crimes, he proved to be a model inmate and was released on good behavior. In 1980, John Gotti tragically loses his son Frank when his bike was hit by their neighbors' car. Later, the neighbor was forced to move because of the constant retaliation from the Gotti family and friends.
Although authorities could never bring him down for the murders they were able to catch him evading his income taxes. November 1931, Alphonse was found guilty on several counts of tax evasion and was sentenced to 11 years in the federal penitentiary and fined $50,000 dollars. Capone first served his sentence in the Atlanta penitentiary before being moved to Alcatraz. Scarface only served 8 years of his 11 year sentence, he was released after being deemed a syphilitic
The Godfather is the story of a Mafia family. It follows the rise of Michael Corleone within the family. Michael was once a war hero and did not want to be involved in the family business. When his father is shot though, Michael takes revenge on the people who did it and becomes a part of the Mafia lifestyle. When his older brother is murdered, Michael ascends to become the boss of the family, and proves to be more ruthless than his father and brother combined. The scene that I am analyzing is one where Michael is becoming his nephew’s godfather at his baptism.
