Johns Hopkins is a place where I had my first time of everything; I studied, meet new people, acquired new skills and most importantly learned that I had a passion for something. Dissecting a real sheep heart, stuttering a pig's leg, certifying in CPR and utilizing the Da Vinci surgical system where some of few the things I did in just two weeks at Hopkins. Before meeting Johns Hopkins I was lost, had no idea what my interests where, nor what I was going to do with my life. Neither of my parents like the health industry, they are both businessmen but somehow I got attracted to the Fostering Healthy Communities summer class at Hopkins. Spending two weeks there showed me important skills that as person I should have, like empathy to others, and how working with a group will take you faster to success. Waking up early at Hopkins didn’t give me a sentiment of sadness, instead of gave me joy because I was passionate of what I was doing. At the summer program I went to an Alzheimer home, where a met a women that will be forever imprinted in my mind. For me she was my patient, and after speaking for hours with her, I felt a strong connection between us but, when we were done talking I realized she had forgotten everything I said. …show more content…

After Hopkins I joined almost all of the clubs available at my school and performed my best at all of them, I starting to get involve in community service and knew that my purpose was on helping the community I live in. All of this I learned with just 13 days at Hopkins and I can’t even imagine what I would learn with 5 years there. When I choose the summer class at Hopkins I thought it would be about diseases and health, but it was much more than that, it was a class that showed me the importance of civic engagement, social responsibility and the importance in helping the community.
