John Ordway Hello, I am Sergeant Tom Ordway, one of the crew in the Corps of Discovery. I was born in Hebron,New Hampshire, into a family of ten siblings. I attended school at a young age,and learnt skills that led to me being recruited for the journey. After school, I then then joined the United States Military. I was then selected to join the Corps of Discovery at the age of 29. I then joined Captain Lewis and CLark on the journey to discovery the Louisiana territory and the search of the Northwest passage. I was chosen to join the Corps of Discovery because I was well educated, having a background of schooling in my childhood. I was also recruited because of my military experience and rank. My rank, experience and education landed me a spot to third in command, after Captain Lewis and William Clark. At first,Corporal John Robinson was going to take my place, but they chose me instead because I had authority. Several men did not like this, but I was still recruited by Lewis and Clark. My responsibilities included issuing provisions, such as rations of food, appointing guard duties, keeping …show more content…
Several men then disobeyed my orders, and visited a local tarven and gotten themselves drunk. For going against my orders, when Captain Lewis returned,he punished the men who gotten themselves drunk to be confined in the camp area for ten days. This was only one experience, and after this, some men still disobeyed my orders. After Several more experiences disobeying my orders, they finally stopped, and we got along quite

Today in this passage I will inform you about two courageous, brave, and very intelligent men who were so similar yet extremely different. These two men are, nonetheless, known for their traveling. Christopher Columbus and Charles Lindbergh happen to be true outstanding men whom I will speak about in this passage. Christopher Columbus was the first man to try to discover an easier and faster way to get to Asia and instead “found” America; he made four trips to get across the Atlantic Ocean ("Christopher Columbus Biography”). Charles Lindbergh was the first man to fly solo transatlantic in his own airplane. At the time, he was also in the U.S. army and was working as an army air service reserve
Lewis had a very interesting life and he showed it in a countless number of ways. According to Bio.com, Meriwether Lewis was born near Ivy, Virginia, on August 18, 1774 (“Meriwether Lewis”). Before he led the expedition, Meriwether was
Hi,I am John W. Gunnison and I am here to drink my coffee and tell you about me. I was born in a house in Goshen (a town in Vermont). I was born November 11, 1812. On my 18th birthday I went off to Hopkinton academy and after I had one term there I went off to teach a local school. Soon I went off to west point military academy. around 1837 I graduated second out of 50 people. I decided to start military service later that same year I graduated.
On May 29, 1805, the night before the Corps entered the White Cliffs, a buffalo bull stampeded into the sleeping camp and rampaged around their fires, narrowly missing the heads of the sleeping explorers. After bending with its hooves, the buffalo was finally chased away by Seaman, Lewis’ dog. One of the men, Sergeant John Ordway, supposed in his own journal that “if he had trod on a man it would have killed him dead.”
You might be wondering”What did they earn out of doing these 2 years of exploration?” Both America and The Corps of Discovery learned about 200+ new plants and animals people at that time didn’t know about. They also learned the geography of the west due to Clark’s mapping.
Born on May 4, 1843, I was raised just like any other southern lady. My father was a merchant, and I grew up in Martinsburg, West Virginia with my parents, several brothers, one sister, and grandmother. I attended Mount Washington Female College of Baltimore from age 12 to
I first went into battle in the war of 1812, where I was aboard the vessel called the Essex which patrolled the South American region to hunt down British vessels. During the war, many British vessels had me surrounded me and killed 58 people of my step-dad’s crew. Yet, he saw my great ability to withstand pressurizing situations. During that war, I also changed my name to David in honor of my step-dad. In 1823, I married my first wife from Norfolk, Virginia, called Susan Merchant. Two years after my
Born to Peggy and Edward Garcia on October 4th 1984, I am a third generation American. As the bus entered the heavily guarded military instillation, I gazed upon the sign that read, "Be All that You Can Be." When the bus stopped, several angry Drill Instructors boarded and began introducing us to a very colorful vocabulary, usually reserved for drunken Sailors. They instructed us to gather our belongings, get off the bus and assemble in a circular formation. As I searched for the strength to get up, I found myself moving, while several Drill Instructors yelled at us for our clumsy attempt to dismount the bus and fall into formation. I wondered if I had made the right choice. However, I have come to realize that my military experiences have tremendously enhanced my self-worth. From those first eight

I was told that if I had simply taken what was originally written and reworded it I would have been good as gold . I now have come to realize that my failure to follow orders is not only affecting me but it is affecting others. I am taking up a lot of my sergeants time by them having to wright counseling statements for me. Also I have been using the excuse that I am dealing with a lot of personal problems all at once, one after another etcetera and so forth. I could have avoided this entire situation completely by just
Becoming captain had tons of responsibility and many tasks to complete and I knew I wanted that position. Before I auditioned for captain I just thought you had to perform a routine in front of the three judges and they would choose whoever was the best and spinning their equipment and dancing. Also, I thought the band director would use favoritism and choose whoever he wanted as captain. I was very close with the band director, but I wanted him to choose who deserved captain not just who he likes the most out of the girls that auditioned for captain.
A great man once said, “Don’t let anyone tell you that you are marked, that you cannot overcome a past that failed to shine. You can.” This great man was Vernon L.
