For this essay, special attention had to be paid to the audience I was writing to, namely the John P. Stevens High School administration. My audience has a deep interest in the academics of the school’s students, and will seek to improve the school policy if it is clear that there are foreseeable benefits to the plan. In the past, the administration has always been contacted first whenever there have been proposals by students such as creating a new club or adding more food items to the lunch menu. The administration will be responsive to me because I am approaching them with a solution to a perceived problem. For example, I mention a survey I took with the help of the school newspaper. The survey asked students to answer how many hours of sleep they got on average each day. The effect of mentioning the survey was to show the administration that the students have admitted to not meeting the sleep requirement as set out by medical experts. Additionally, I went in-depth with the elaboration of my proposed schedule, addressing all attributes of the current schedule such as passing time and lunch hours. The purpose of this analysis was to provide a clear explanation of what my schedule would entail, so in case the administration had any doubts, they could refer back to my paper. I wanted them to see that I put in a lot of effort into researching, talking to other JPS alums, and creating the schedule so they would take my proposal
