In the story the Crucible by Arthur Miller, there are countless characters that have made good and bad decisions. Nobody is so perfect that they have never made a mistake, that is just the way life is. “We are not given a good life or a bad life. We are given a life, it’s up to us to make it good or bad” stated by Ward Foley. In the Crucible, one character known as John Proctor had made one awful mistake by having an affair with Abigail Williams. He has also made multiple good choices also. He’s a loving father, he sacrifices himself for others, and he is an honorable man. Before any bad choice that John Proctor had made he was a loving father to a wonderful family. In Proctor’s marvelous and understanding family, him and his wife Elizabeth had three children together. Proctor tries to think the best for his children and wife. “I have three children-how may I teach them to walk like men in the world, and I sold my friends?” (1110). In this statement made by John, he is expresses that a dishonest man will raise dishonest children and he doesn’t desire that for his children. No matter what happens to him, he hopes his children to grow up knowing that he was an honest man. John Proctor is a loving father to his children by showing them in the right direction of how to live, not just by his actions but by his own words too. At the close of the story after John Proctor had made his horrible mistake he sacrificed himself for his family, wives of his friends, civilians, and
