A Look at John Q HCS/235 History of Health Care Utilization in the US November 20, 2013 Brett Robinson A look at John Q Too poor to afford private health care insurance coverage, but lucky enough to qualify for Medicaid John Q faces yet another challenge. John’s father recently suffered a heart attack which brought into question his own mortality. John like many Americans is a working class man who works full time but still under the poverty level and into a substandard and overworked Medicaid system. He like many others has high blood pressure and with his father recent heart attack he would like to be checked out. John having weekends off he can take his son to see a proper physician but due to the fact that the physician’s office does not open on weekends it limits his probably of utilizing his health care benefits. Some of these factors can be changeable while others cannot. Some mutable factors are that the physician’s office can try an open at least one weekend a month so that people can get themselves check out and they can do it by appointment only and for certain hours of the day. Another factor they can change is provide transportation to the clinic. If some church now a days can provide transportation to their service every Sunday why can’t a clinic who can fundraise and let the communities participate as well, because it will benefit them all. Factors that are unchangeable is that the only Medicaid accepting physicians is 40 minutes away and appointment must be made 2 weeks in advance because of number of patients. It is time to make a change to the mutable factors. Some ways the mutable factors can be changed are by opening the clinic at least one weekend a month and have them book an appointment that way they know how many patients they will be having, they can limit the patients per day or the hours they will work. As well as bringing out volunteer medical physicians so that they can help the physicians and as well as themselves for school.
