Ted Bundy, Theodore Kaczynski, Jeffrey Dahmer, and John Wayne Gacy have something in common. They are all convicted serial killers. Since 1900, there have been 614 known serial killers in the United States. All have been convicted of at least three murders, however, they may be suspected of more (Fox, Levin & Quinet, 2012). John Wayne Gacy, also known as the Killer Clown, was convicted of killing 33 young men and teenage boys, in Chicago, Illinois, from 1972 to 1978. The lethal injection was administered at the Statesville Correctional Center in Crest Hills, Illinois. His final meal was, a dozen deep fried shrimp, a bucket of original recipe chicken from KFC, a pound of fresh strawberries and French fries. His final words were “kiss my ass” (Cook County Circuit Court). I choose John Wayne Gacy for a couple of reasons. I did not know much on him and I wanted someone outside the Pacific Northwest. I read a lot of true crime books, so learning more about Gacy fascinated me. I also wanted someone who would have enough information available. I did not want to have someone that there was little information available. I did learn a lot about John Wayne Gacy. I believe choice theory is a great theory for this. Choice theory is where individuals choose to commit a crime, weighing the benefit versus the punishment. Then decided to do the crime or not to. The idea that we all have the choice of our actions. Out of all the Infamous killers in the U.S the two well-known killers that I will be researching are Jeffrey Dahmer and Ted Bundy. These two murderers share many similarities such as their backgrounds, Crimes, and Motives. Both Jeffrey Dahmer and Ted Bundy are serial killers who’ve killed over a dozen people each. They’ve committed crimes including rape, murder, and kidnapping. In this research paper I will be comparing and contrasting the two serial killers.
Throughout American history, numerous acts of crime have been committed by serial killers that ultimately shocked the nation. A serial killer is defined as “someone who murders more than three victims one at a time in a relatively short interval (Serial).” One particular person who is considered one of the most infamous serial killers on earth is Jeffrey Dahmer. The Jeffrey Dahmer case had a significant impact on not only society but on the criminal justice system as well.
