The Outsiders, by S.E. Hinton, is a book that is full of excitement, adventure, and real-life situations. The book starts out in the daily life of a 16-year-old boy named Ponyboy. He is a part of a group called “greasers” that battle with “socs” daily. The greasers are usually poor and the socs are usually rich. One night, Ponyboy and his friend, Johnny, are walking when they get jumped by a group of socs. One of them is attempting to drown Ponyboy in a fountain, but Johnny saves his friend and kills the soc with a switchblade. They quickly run to Dally to explain what happened. Johnny is represented in the novel The Outsiders by S.E. Hilton, published in 1967, as shy and anxious, however is later shown to be brave and courageous, giving himself up to save others. Johnny is seen as honourable and as a protagonist, only committing crimes, such as murder, to protect himself and his best friends. This helps the readers interact with the novel because it shows the stress of being a greaser, and how the greasers have a difficult life, being attacked on the streets and abused at home. This is made evident through his dialogue, action and reactions. It represents the key theme in the novel of brotherhood and the gang because Johnny shares a closer bond with his friends, the greasers, than he does with his parents.
The Outsiders is an action filled novel by S.E. Hinton. The story tells the tragic, beautiful, and confusing life of a greaser named Ponyboy. Ponyboy learns that stereotyping can really hurt people feelings, ruin relationships and can even be deadly. For example Ponyboy’s friend Dally dies because of stereotyping, stereotyping also might have caused Ponyboy to never meet someone who would eventually become a good friend, and Ponyboy could have died because of stereotyping.
Mahrukh Farooq Ms. Nageen Khan English 7B 2/26/24 The Outsiders Character Analysis Essay “When I stepped out into the bright sunlight from the darkness of the movie house, I had only two things on my mind: Paul Newman and a ride home.” This is a famous quote from the novel The Outsiders, written by S.E. Hinton in 1976. The book tells the story of Ponyboy Curtis, his gang, and his struggles with right and wrong in a society where he feels like an outsider. One of the main characters in the book is Johnny Cade.
It all started when Ponyboy decided to run into a burning church with Johnny to save some kids. Johnny and Ponyboy acted fast, faster than they had ever before. They saved all the kids just in time, Ponyboy ran right out of the church and never looked back once. Until he was out, he was so fast that he didn’t even see that he was on fire. Out of nowhere, Dally hit him as hard as he could to put the fire out. Ponyboy fainted. (“I hadn’t realized Johnny was right behind me all the way.”) (Pg.91,92). A loud “Ahhhhh” hit everyone's ear, it was Johnny. Dally heard it and jumped into action. He ran back into the church to save Johnny. Seconds after the ambulance came, it took Ponyboy, Johnny, and Dally to the hospital. Dally and Ponyboy were going to be fine. Sadly, Johnny was hurt really bad and was probably going to end up

“The Outsiders” is by far one of my favorite books of all time. I think it’s a great story that tells about how a fourteen-year-old boy overcomes many challenges and learns how to get through each of them individually. “The Outsiders” is a story about a boy named Ponyboy that lives with his two older brothers, and they have a group of friends, called the Greasers. One day Pony gets upset with his older brother, Darry, and goes to a park with his friend Johnny to calm down. At the park, a group of kids, called Socs, come and start drowning Pony. Johnny gets scared and doesn’t know what to do so he kills one of the Socs. Soon after, Pony and Johnny decide to run away so they wouldn’t have to deal with
As a young adult, it is difficult to grow up without parents and still be tough and brave. In addition, teens can be emotional and overreact at times. In the novel The Outsiders, by S.E Hinton, a fourteen-year-old kid named Ponyboy Curtis feels different emotions that make him stand out from other Greasers, or “hoodlums”. Ponyboy, the youngest of all the Greasers, is a great example of a teen who feels isolated, brave, and emotional throughout the novel.

To be memorable, a character has to do something extraordinary. Books and characters inside them are often forgotten due to the variety of books and the decline of reading due to technological devices. Nowadays, a character has to do something different and great to at least have a chance of staying in the reader’s mind for more than a day. Most books are just flyby’s, books that you read once and forget about, while few are memorable. The book has to be perfectly concocted to be memorable.
The book, and the movie, “the Outsiders” is about a conflict between greasers and socs. Up until the point where Johnny kills a soc, there are mostly only small fights and arguments between the two. The story “the Outsiders” takes place in the 1960’s, when there were two main lifestyles. Greasers and Socs. Greasers are known for greasing their hair. Socs are rich kids who have good clothes, drive mustangs, and always have an argument against the greasers. The main character in S. E. Hinton’s book “the Outsiders” is Ponyboy Curtis. He has two older brothers Darry and Soda. Pony is 14 years old and his best friend, Johnny, is 16 years old. S. E. Hinton wrote “the Outsiders” when she was 17 years old. Throughout the book, The Outsiders, by S.E. Hinton, one of the most controversial characters is Johnny Cade. Johnny, Ponyboy’s close friend and the gang’s “pet” is described in many ways and with many traits . However, there are three main ones that seem to be the most prominent. They are brave, tough, sensitive. Johnny is both brave and tough, but he is also sensitive. He often hides his sensitivity by acting cool and uncaring around non-gang members. Johnny is sensitive, for example, about his parents. “Johnny didn’t say anything. But he stared at the dashboard with such hurt bewilderment that I could have bawled.” (Hinton 88). This is Johnny’s reaction after Dally told Johnny that Johnny’s parents have not asked about him. Johnny is very hurt by this fact, so he obviously cares what his parents think of him, even though they don’t necessarily care about Johnny.
The author in The Outsiders has a variety of characters that she uses to explain her backlife. Such as Ponyboy, Darry, SodaPop, Johnny, Dallas, Two-bit and Steve. All of these characters have different and unique personalities. Ponyboy is good at recognizing these personalities. This makes Ponyboy the mature one of the group. Withstanding the death of his parents make him stronger as a person. This helps him value his family more, since he lives with his two brothers, Darry and Sodapop.
The Outsiders by S. E. Hilton, is about a teenage gang and their life. Most of the story is told from the point of a 14 year old boy, Ponyboy. The book closely describes teenage problems and decisions of
