Johns Hopkins University is better known as the first American Research Institution, by which many other universities have attempted to follow its footsteps. Due to the wealthy distribution of the the seven million dollars Johns Hopkins had accumulated throughout his life, Johns Hopkins University was founded in 1876 and the Johns Hopkins Hospital in 1889. Johns Hopkins was named after his grandfather, Johns Hopkins, by his mother. His grandfather accumulated a lot of wealth by investing in the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. His grandson followed his footsteps by becoming a businessman. He fell in the career of business, when he was left in charge of his uncle’s wholesale grocery business.
