Every day I wake up to two little boys, they look up at me and say “Good morning Mom” in that moment, every day, I realize that everything I do is not for me but for my two boys that God has entrusted me with. My boys influence me daily to pursue my degree and to succeed at everything I do. I want to show my boys how important it is to work hard academically so that they can grow into young men that think clearly prior to taking action.
Growing up I never had someone excited to look at colleges with me once I started high school. I watched all my friends go and visit schools with their parents so that they could prepare for that school of their dreams. Here I was enjoying every minute of school I could, but had no
The Buffalo Creek is in the Appalachians in West Virginia and this area was named buffalo Creek because the hunters were coming in this area to hunt the buffalo and as long as the hunters were killing the buffalo and there had no more the buffalo in this area. When the hunters realized that there had no more buffalos in that place and then the people start to build the houses in Buffalo Creek that is how the story of Buffalo Creek had began. The people of Buffalo were coal minors, and coal mining was their life, they didn’t have another job besides coal mining everybody in the Buffalo community never envies to go do another job, and also Buffalo Creek was reputed cause coal mine. West By West, by Jerry West and Jonathan Coleman, is a 338 page sports autobiography about Jerry West from 2011. This autobiography documents the life of Jerry West, from his poor childhood in West Virginia, to his prestigious NBA career. This book is written by Jerry West himself, which gives the reader a very detailed look into his life. The authors of this book, as stated before, are Jerry West himself and Jonathan Coleman. Jerry West has no other books published, as his basketball career occupied much of his life, and this is his only published work. Jonathan Coleman, however has been an author for quite some time, he resides in Charlottesville, Virginia, and has written several books, for which four have been pretty successful. The four
The little rock Nine have sparked a fire with me that I will never forget. I want to start off by saying thank you Ms. Landdeck of making mas a person read this book I loved it an I will never forget it. The Book Warriors Don’t Cry hit a nerve for me I must believe that this book was not fiction because of the little details she putting the book. Melba Pattillo Beals did such a great job writing this and I am glad she took her journal and decide to write about it. There are so many African Americans that I go to school with now including myself that take the right to go to school for granted. I take it for granted because it was something I never had to fight for. IN the book the fact that she put her name
“The truth is powerful and it will prevail.” This quote was composed by Isabelle Baumfree, a solid African American pioneer. She believed that truth is so strong that it cannot be hindered, and it will eventually be known. Ms. Baumfree had the powers to express and motivate people on what she believes in through her words and wisdom. Isabelle Baumfree wrote one of the most famous women right’s speeches known today called, “Ain’t I a Women”, in which she uses purpose, audience, content, tone, and structure to get her message across.
On a Sunday afternoon, I was sitting in the library, exhausted with two textbooks laying on the desk, unopened. Evidently, I was not doing anything productive because I could not bring myself to open my textbooks and review for my two tests tomorrow. Ten minutes passed by and I decided I needed to walk around to clear my mind before I dive into my studies. As time passed by, I continued to roam the second floor of the library and down the stairs to the first floor of the library. I wandered over to the research center of the library and walked up and down the aisles until I stumbled over a
The first setting takes place in Southern California, where Percy a confused, lost, demigod was chased by two Gorgons, reptilian like creatures who wanted to kill and take revenge on him. Other settings throughout the story take place in Camp Jupiter (a Roman demigod training camp) Alaska, and Canada.
lead to larger success and even more opportunities in life to prosper at a later date. This
Tuesday, September 11th, 2001 began as a normal, late summer day in New York City, New York. It started as a beautiful morning, with its sky cloudless and bright with the shining sun. Despite the seemingly peaceful morning, a sequence of catastrophic events occurred and caused the day to take a turn for the worst. Anything that made the day appear normal drastically changed.
Everyone has a defining moment at one point in his or her life. Like Tom Benecke in “Contents of the Dead Man's Pocket", who had discovered his defining moment when he realized he was on the edge of death. Similarly, I found my defining moment at the age of eight when I almost drowned in the water. It was a moment that changed my life forever and will always remain in my heart.
Two of the greatest days of my life were the days my daughters were born. The first time I held the both of them and gazed into their eyes I felt a sense of relief and hope. The feeling is a warm tingling sensation that engulfed my entire body. The emotions that I felt are beyond what words can explain. It’s amazing to me that in the first few minutes of their lives they completely changed my perception of the world.
It was that frightful night in June when I saw my whole world crash beneath my feet. That car, as blue as the ocean, that call as unforgettable as the darkest moon, and my mom as beautiful as a flower. I do not know why It had to happen, but all I was concerned about was getting her back.
As quoted by Peter Diamandis “Nothing is more precious than life... especially the life of your child.” This quote means a lot to me due to the fact that the most important part of my life is my kids. My first daughter was born in 2005 her name is Tabitha then fifteen months later my son was born his name was Dakota. And my last daughter was born in October 2013 and her name is Emma. With a lot of help from my wife, every time that I became a father, I realized I was living the most important moment of my life.
Alright, now that I’ve got that out of the way, let’s start with the obvious. College, at least in the first world, hosts a very large part of young adults (18-22 years old). While there’s plenty of 18 year olds that don’t go the college route, on our day and age, most do. Other chapters go into whether that’s a good thing or a bad thing, but for now
Naming one simple experience that has transformed my life has proven to be a challenge. It’s a bit overwhelming looking back at the journey that has led me here. Where and when did it all begin? I believe, it may have started the day my daughter was born, April 25, 2006, at 4:44 pm. Unknowingly, this 7lb baby was about to give me a precious gift, the opportunity to recreate my childhood through the eyes of a child. She was going to challenge everything I knew to be right, and convince me to make changes for the better.
