In Johnson’s (2001) article, he stressed therapists should not be held to a higher standard that they must fix all the problems in the world. Johnson (2001) explained that what matters the most is that relationships that are built on the premises of health and wellness. However, there are some that believe that therapist should advocate to resolve all the problems in the world. In Hardy’s (2001) article, he believed that social justice is an important aspect in a therapist’s position. Hardy believed that therapists should take an active part in trying to make this world a better place through advocacy (Hardy, 2011). My personal beliefs would align more with Johnson because I believe that the interactions between individuals and their environment is more important than trying to solve all the problems in the world. I understand that stating, solving all the problems in the world, is a bold statement and perhaps not exactly what Hardy was saying. However, I believe that as therapist if we can improve the quality of life for individuals then it will have a direct effect on the social environment they belong to. Therefore, in concentrating on the individuals' it is possible to accomplish both ideology’s. The same …show more content…
I used to belong to a specific domination within the Christian community because of my family and my ex husband. Those beliefs were very strict and somewhat rigid that if you didn’t do X then you wouldn’t be saved. Due to certain circumstances, I started to challenge those beliefs. I started to understand that I did not fully understand what they meant, I was just going along with what I was told. Therefore, through some personal self exploration I have learned that my own beliefs do not align exactly with what I was taught or rather told how it was. I have learned more now to appreciate different belief systems and it can be more of a personal experience than what is socially acceptable by certain
Neil Johnson is a singer-songwriter from the northwestern, United States. Sitting in the Tennessee Volunteer Football Film room, a young college student-athlete reviewed plays of Cal Berkeley football team for the upcoming season. "You are going to get drafted in the first round of the NFL if you just play these next 10 games" said former Tennessee Vols Defensive Back Coach. The young boy Inky Johnson, defensive back of Tennessee Vols, was excited to hear that wonderful news. It was a dream of his since he was 7 years old to play in the NFL. He was ready to help his family out of the struggles and harsh reality they faced everyday. Eager to play the upcoming season, Inky Johnson had a phenomenal first game. On September 9, 2006, it was the second game versus the Air Force football team ,Inky was excited as usual for any football game. He didn't start that game, but he eventually got in.
William Johnson was born a slave in the year 1809 but was freed by his owner, probably his father in 1820. His owner had earlier released William’s sister and mother. William Johnson upon being freed became a barber apprentice in Natchez town. William’s brother-in-law had a barbershop which he took over in 1830 and later on got married to Amy Battles. They had eleven children. Amy was a free person and just like William was black (National Humanities Center Resource Toolbox, 2007). William Johnson went on to operate several barbershops, owned land, and rented buildings. He also had a bathhouse and regularly loaned white and black people money which was paid at an interest. Like other free blacks in the South, William Johnson owned slaves and at times sold them too. The diary is a record of his daily personal endeavors, majorly about the payment of his debts, the items he bought and the running of his family. William was murdered by a free black man, Baylor Winn, with whom they had a boundary conflict. Despite his murderer being identified, he escaped prosecution since according to his evidence, he was a white man, and so no black man could testify against him (Humanities Center Resource Toolbox, 2007).
It is my pleasure to first take this time with a warm welcome for making this your book of choice to read. With sincere gratitude my wife Jaclyn has been the front runner with the help of creating this journal. Several moments in our life we will all without a doubt find ourselves struggling. Either you’re currently in a mishap, headed or have dealt with a variety of some struggling circumstances. For each one of us comes the strength, stability and courage to overcome any obstacle encountered. Nevertheless, the obstacles and outcomes that come our way are completely and solely up to us as to how we handle each

"ABSTRACT TREES" is an Abstract Expressionistic photography collection by Nawfal Johnson. This series shows "what else" the trees are—their symbolic meanings based on physical characteristics, which in a larger sense has inspired Nawfal to create this project.
Moreover, Matthew Johnson effectively challenges conventional views of castles and underscores the complexity of such structures by using a variety of credible sources and evidence. He successfully supports his thesis by covering all his bases and acknowledging different viewpoints. Johnson’s analytical methodology helps defend his notion as by examining other academics works he is able to offer greater insight and provide new conclusions; “I have discussed what I view as a series of ruptures in other books […].” Johnson principally presents the strengths and weaknesses of other academics to make up the bulk of the book. He criticizes those with distinctive and limited views and by presenting their weaknesses he is able to further support his thesis. For example, by highlighting the problems associated with the constricted military view such as using our modern preconceptions to defend what the intent of the builder at the time was, only aids Johnson’s notion that castles cannot be one thing or another but rather more complex. One cannot use their own bias of what was intended or the thought process in order to defend their statement. Another instance where Johnson offers his own inquiry to add dimension and illustrate the intricate nature of castles is in the subheading Ripples from Italy. The author touches on the point that France is often the contender for parallels in late medieval Europe however, that this on its own cannot produce a critical examination of past
Working as a therapist can be exhausting, but yet, rewarding at the same time. As a therapist we deal with daily encounters of other people’s lives, issues, problems etc. Taking multiple cases of providing therapeutic interventions has an effect on the human body and the psyche. The wear and tear over time begins to haunt us without recognizing how neglectful we can be towards ourselves because our focus is for the sake of other people’s sanity. The profession is hard, and can be detrimental to professionals who do not take care of themselves. Self-care is an important aspect when working as a therapist. Our health, mental health, spiritual values, etc. should matter just as the client’s health, mental health and spiritual values matters
When we advocate for clients, our own biases and power privilege may come into play. (Garcia & McDowell, 2010, p. 105) Genuine participation is important for therapists to be able to see how biases can contribute to the dynamics of therapy. We should avoid taking the position of being the only advocate for a client, but rather have an understanding that resources must be obtained to assist families and individuals. Informed questions related to advocating for clients and to ensuring our biases do not come into play can assist in this process. As the therapist for a client, I also see him and his father for family sessions at a separate time. It is hard not to take sides with the client, because my own bias sees the father as codependent and trying to control and change his son. Therapy has truly been a test in being aware of my bias and not allowing them to come into the space.
Let say for example, a new college student is living his or her life trying to find there place in the world. When a young enthusiastic man comes up to you and befriends you and invites yourself to a nondenominational bible study. You believe him and attend this bible study and actually like it. The people at the this bible study seam genuinely caring and loving. This people group call themselves the International Church of Christ. So you continue to addend weekly study’s and learn about the love of Christ and the doctrine of the Church of Christ. As you are making connections and making relationships with the congregation of this group, you realize that their teachings about how salvation is attained is different than any church you have been
With these attributes, they will have the fundamentals of creating a strong therapeutic alliance with their clients. The therapists should be encouraged in “treating new cases as unique and constructing new theories to fit them, rather than depending on categories of established theory and technique” (Safran & Muran, 2000). Although this does not mean that standard techniques are useless, flexibility and creativity in application of these theories is considered the most important skill of a good therapist.
The role of the therapist – regardless of their theoretical orientation - is to convey to their clients that they are there to
Within my growth as a Christian, I have usually surrounded myself with others who possess the religious beliefs that I hold. As a result of my
It was not until my freshmen world geography class where I learned about the variety of religions, that I began to question what I truly believe in and what was the right religion for me. My parents being catholic passed on their religious beliefs and actions naturally to me. I grew up with the same catholic stories and traditions for ages and I never really understood it as a child, therefore I never really believed in them. For the majority of my life I heard these stories, beliefs, and practices but never dedicated myself to them because I had inhabited a general and open prospect in life. After learning about the vast majority of culture and religions that other people practiced I spark of wonder came upon me as if I needed to know more about the other beliefs that there were. At this moment I truly realized that the Catholic religion was basically forced on me and I didn 't have the option to choose freely on what I want to believe in. An important tradition in Catholicism is attending a religious retreat. I had been trying to avoid participation in this retreat because I figured there would only be stuck-up, uptight, catholic people trying to force their beliefs on me and attempt to change me and expose me to a completely strict lifestyle. However, to not upset my parents, I agreed to go but I told myself that I would not participate in any of the activities, that I wouldn 't talk to anyone, and at the end of the day go home without my beliefs changing. On the ride to
Since I was raised in this religion, there came a point where my observations were not enough and I had to start forming my own opinions and beliefs. I accepted Jesus as my savior when I was about eight or nine although comically, I am not sure if I truly meant it or was in it for the small piece of bread and grape juice that came with the acceptance. I was truly saved and baptized in seventh grade at my small Christian school. When I first was saved, I do not believe I had a firm understanding of everything I was stating I believed, but just prior to my baptism I became acutely aware of my humanness and need for a close relationship to God. What I learned from the Bible and my study
