In ninth grade, I joined the Animal Rights Club (ARC) because I wanted to help animals but, as the years went by, I realized many members quit. Through my experience in ARC, members started to quit because the student body did not approve of ARC since not all members were vegan. Therefore I decided to run for president to assure the members that ARC is for all animal lovers and inform the student body that this is an inclusive
For many years there has been an ongoing debate on whether or not animals should be given rights, even there own bill of rights. Some who are against the animal bill of rights argue that testing products on animals is important to the safety of humans. Others who want the new bill of rights claim that animals have feelings and that science is treating them inhumanely. Animal activists also add that animals are intelligent beings and are aware of how they are treated. Based on science proving animal activists correct on many of their points, this calls for a new bill of rights, in the United States, especially written for the protection and care of wild and domestic animals.
During 8th grade at Howard D. McMillan Middle, I believed one person could make a difference if they just set their mind to do so. Our school had many restrictions and few student activities. Early that year I became interested in Student Government (S.G.) and National Junior Honor Society (NJHS), so I decided to run for President of both clubs hoping to make a change.
The Animal Bill of Rights is meant to protect animals that don’t have legal protection. There are laws that protect some of the animals, but are often insufficient and full of loopholes. In this society we have many people who think the total opposite of defending the animals. It may be because of selfish thinking. Sometimes one might think, it is needed for them to survive or because they want to be able to show their children the animals in person at zoos. Now, the question is, if animals need a Bill of Rights? I strongly believe that they do need a Bill of Rights because there are animals on the day-to-day basis that are being mistreated and abused by humans that don’t care for them. We need the Bill of Rights because it will give a better voice to the animals being treated as if they were nothing in this world. I agree with what the source indicated “ Animals in the U.S. are considered just “property” by law, even though they are living, feeling beings”. If they were not considered “property” humans wouldn’t be harming these animals and would rather be caring or not giving them much attention if they aren’t an animal enthusiast.
Recall the line, “Help control the pet population, have your pets spayed or neutered.” Famous game show host Bob Barker recited this tagline to conclude every episode of the longest running game show aired, The Price is Right. Although notorious for hosting The Price is Right for thirty-five years, Bob Barker is also a well-known animal rights activist. Barker didn’t become famous without enduring a few speed bumps in his life. However through his dedication, determination, and doggedness, Barker has built a reputation and has made himself an established figure in today’s society.
Introduction, animals that are being tested safety of their products that’s been a subject of an intense debate for over 10 years. While, a lot of people that alleged animals, the remained animals are being subjugated by the research cosmetics companies all over the country/all over the world. Even though, the scientists frequently profit from animal research, I don’t think all the suffering, the pain, and the animals dying are worth just trying find out the human benefits from the products.
Going into my final year of high school, I had been elected as the Vice President of the National Honour Society for Murphy High School’s charter. With this new position, I had to contribute ideas on how to raise money for our club and school, how to improve the students involved, and how the club could better the school. The election was based on nominations and popular vote. I was elected because I was outspoken and provided ideas as much as I could in meetings. This allowed for my fellow peers to understand that I cared for the honor society and wanted to better the program.
Many scientist are violating animal rights when they use them in research. Animals rights have been violated when used for research such as being tortured, in excruciating pain and having a slow death. Tom Reagan, a philosophy professor states that animals should be treated with respect and not be reduced to trash for the use of experiments. "Animals have a basic moral right to respectful treatment, this inherent value is not respected when animals are being reduced to mere tools in scientific experiments."(Reagan, 26) When animals are being used for research many rights of the animals have been violated.
My cultural immersion is season three, episode three of 30 Days, Animal Rights. I am employed in agriculture and have been for the last 12 years. Those who are involved with farming operations believe in animal rights, but those rights are different than what was portrayed in this video.I have taken stand against anti-farming measures and harshly against The Humane Society of the United States and PETA. Finding faults and misstated facts with the propaganda with these to organization. My new stance would be uncomfortable, as I do not view them as the good guys. The stance I am going to be will force me outside of the dominant culture that I live in.
Billions of animals are killed by human beings each year. Most of these animals live in filthy, unfavorable conditions and undergo painful procedures before being slaughtered for food or other purposes. The way that these animals are treated would never be considered ethical when applied to humans, even though animals and humans have much in common. Humans should not kill or harm animals purposefully, just as they should not purposefully harm other humans.
This report will focus the threats inherent within ecoterrorist organisations, such as, ‘The Earth Liberation Front’ (‘ELF’) and ‘The Animal Liberation Front’ (‘ALF’). To understand these threats the report will aggregate the origins of ‘ELF’ and ‘ALF’, both in respect to their ideological underpinnings and their organisational structure. These factors contribute not only to the past successes of ‘ELF’ and the ‘ALF’ but also to the likelihood of the organisation to undertake violent acts into the future.
I completely understand the views of other cultures/countries. As you know this is merely my own opinion and I do not speak for the masses. I wouldn't say that I am an animal rights activist and I do understand the pecking order, as long as their is a purpose, but, sports that include harm to innocent animals is hard for me to swallow. I know that history has also shown the sacrifice of people, I believe the Myans did it, that doesn't sit with me well either.
As Americans, animals play a huge role in our everyday lives. We use animals in numerous of healthy and fun ways that keep our lives more enjoyable. What most people are unaware of though, is some of the horrible things that happen to animals outside of domestication. Animal rights has been a huge controversial issue when it comes to product testing, animal experimentation and simply people not giving animals the civility they deserve. Regarding my opinion, I think animals deserve the same amount of respect and rights as humans do. Animals should never be treated as less just because they are not able to speak up for themselves or not able to express pain as easily. Although product testing is the most contentious subject, animals can be used in circuses, animal fights and even the animals in aquariums and zoos are not treated fairly. These animals that are being used in these harmful ways do not deserve to be exploited and I feel most people agree with my claim.
Put forward by Peter Singer in 1970s, the idea of animal liberation is about human-beings should treat non-human animals ethically, which includes refuse to use them in research, entertaining, food and clothing. This idea has greatly influenced animal liberation movement and the establishment of many animal protect organizations such as PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals). However, animal experiments in medical field is necessary for the reasons that it helps people to find cures for diseases and makes medical students become proper clinical professionals.
‘‘For better or worse, zoos are how most people come to know big or exotic animals. Few will ever see wild penguins sledding downhill to sea on their bellies, giant pandas holding bamboo lollipops or tree porcupines in the Canadian Rockies’’(Ackerman, Diane).
