The Greek life at Syracuse University is amazing. It is very prominent and has a big role in many students' lives. It brings together all different people to unify them as one family. To those struggling to find the right friends during their first semester, it gives them an opportunity to find the niche they belong in. For those trying to network and build new connections, this process opens doors and new relations. The ability to help out in different philanthropic causes and find lifelong connections is what is best about the Greek life here. However, for me and my personal position in life, I felt that joining the Greek life would hinder my ability to grow as an individual.
Growing up, I was surrounded by a very homogeneous society. My small town was not diverse and I became one of few minorities of that population. I learned and accepted that I was one of the only Asians in my school.

One should aspire to wear the letters of their house. However, I did not feel that fire. Looking at the Greek letters was similar to looking at hieroglyphics. I realized I had no interest in finding what sorority represented what philanthropic cause nor did I try to. Once again, I felt myself moving along with the crowd that surrounded me. I think it is wonderful so many girls are rushing to enter a new environment. However, with a stronger desire to expand myself, I chose not to rush. It is perfectly okay to try new things and float around, exposing yourself to unfamiliar territory. I have learned that by pushing yourself to be in uncomfortable situations can bring great awards, such as making new friends or discovering new job opportunities. I chose to take this time to grow, flourish, and develop as a new person out in the (somewhat) real world. If I do choose to rush next year, I know I will have an amazing experience, but for now, I am perfectly happy with where I
Coming into college most students struggle to find a place where they fit in. Greek life provides individuals the opportunity to find people that are similar to them and share the same values as they do. In the article
I believe the experiences I have had throughout my childhood and now as a young adult would make me a great camp counselor. I have always enjoyed the outdoors. I often went hiking at Chestnut Ridge State Park and my family loved to go camping in Allegany. I’ve played many sports throughout my childhood including soccer, softball and gymnastics. In high school I started working as a gymnastics club leading workouts and creating circuits to build young children’s strength and abilities. I also became the captain of the varsity cheerleading team my senior year. Now in college, I am an early childhood/childhood education major with a concentration in math. I am a part of the education club on campus as well as Fredonia Greek Life.
A young nineteen year old boy named Tim Piazza was called diction dead on February 4th, 2017 from a hazing incident. Over two hundred university hazing deaths has occurred since 1838. With the deaths of young innocent adults there are many questions being asked about college, American higher education and Greek life. Do young adults in Greek life have a personal or collective responsibility? Through research students are found under pressure to join Greek life and participate in hazing.
Despite getting a bad rap from national news and many local/campus groups Greek Life has a lot to offer and the picture they may have painted is not the whole thing. I have learned so much and grown so much as a man with my time as a Greek Triangle man. I have gained skills like time management, public speaking, interpersonal communication, leadership, and the list goes
By participating in Greek life, the students’ social circles are expanded. Because sororities and fraternities are specific to gender, religions, races, and even majors, those who participate in Greek life create lifelong relationships with people they choose to associate with by
Ancient Greece has been a religion- centered culture since the earliest period of habitation in Greece, the Pre-Mycenaean/Mycenaean period. Also through to the Dark Ages to the Classical period. It is a religiously centered civilization, and did have significant changes in the how it was incorporated into people’s daily lives. Religion is important to know about the Ancient Greeks because through it we are able to understand how they lived their lives.
The ancient Greeks with their brilliant and imaginative spirit created a complete order of things that functioned harmoniously in the infinite world that contained them. Although its exact origins are lost in time, Greek religion is thought to date from about the 2d millenium B.C., when the culture of Aryan invaders fused with those of the Aegean and Minoan peoples who had inhabited the region of Greece from Neolithic times [1]. The beginning and the genesis of this world occupied the ancient Greeks in much the same way it did the early people of every civilization. Greek religion was at the beginning a blend of Minoan, Egyptian, Asian, and other elements, but it subsequently evolved along with Greek thought.
I assumed one of the main reasons was to become closely connected to a group of people during my college career. Through being connected with a limited amount of people, I thought that the groups would almost immediately become lifelong friends. After the members join, I imagined the lifelong friendship soon will become a meaningless phrase because they will refer to themselves as a sisterhood or brotherhood. After doing a lot of research, I found that all of my predictions were not too far from the truth as to why people want to become a part of the Greek life. I also found that I want to join for many other reasons including the housing benefits, the atmosphere, and the incredible opportunities provided. I thought that I might join to get away from the crazy college students, but rather found that I will join to actually become united with these students. The house I choose will be the Greek honor society provided it is available to me. Inside the honors house, I will find new friends that will become my sisters that can assist me. If I consider the Greek life, I should do a little research to figure out if the Greek experience will match my personal life. If I am asked for my opinion, I will definitely say to join the society and then enjoy it as much as possible. Although there are negatives attached to the Greek system, I believe the positive attributes
During the golden age of Greece, (The Fifth Century BC) Politics, arts and thinking and philosophy were all rapidly changing. However, even though the three all have a legacy in the current day and age, the one with the biggest legacy today is Greek politics and specifically government. The reasons that it holds the biggest legacy today is because it is the political system that most countries use or at least try to use and it has allowed changes brought forth by the people as a whole and not a single monarch who holds power. As a whole, although arts and architecture have famous pieces like the Odyssey and the Pantheon, and Philosophy and thinking has lead to scientific and mathematical breakthroughs, the legacy that is the most prevalent
Growing, I lived in an area where you don’t often see colored people. We were the only Asians/non-Caucasian living in my neighborhood. Growing up was pretty tough, because all the other kids on my street would always pick on us or even sometimes try to vandalize our house. They would say awful stuff like “go away you chink” or even “go back to china.” We lived in a really nice area too, so all that stuff was quite surprising to us. My parents had enough with
Since the beginning of time the people of the world have their share of beliefs. Greek mythology is the arguably the most popular region of study. In Ancient Greece every citizen had a patron that would protect them and pantheism was commonplace. The Romans admired the Greeks in their art and culture and even took different aspects of their gods. Polytheism was widely accepted in all cultures so the seed of mythology bloomed. The time line of the creations of gods to the end of their reign is an important factor in Greek Mythology.
I just had a good night sleep back in Egypt. Soon I am going to sail to Greece. This is going to be a long journey, so I am going to have to bring some of my trading items, because I am going to get hungry when I get to Greece. So, I gathered all of my trading times. Like jewelry, and clothes. Now I am starting to sail. I left my wife behind so she can stay with the children. This journey is going to take 30 days. Now I am starting to sail. The waves are moving very fast. It is very tiring. After days I found a island by Greece. I am literally starving. So, I traded some of my jewelry for a lot of food. Then I continued my Journey for days. After a month I finally arrived in Greece. The land is not like hebrews. In Greece the land is surrounded
Ancient Greece’s legacy contains numerous topics that influence our modern-day life including Art and Architecture, Drama and History, War, Democracy, Science and Technology, and Philosophy. My guess is that a lot of students will focus on Democracy. However, while it is quite important to western culture, I have decided to focus on three examples of things that were very interesting to me Mathematics and Physics, Comedy and Architecture.
Mythology was an integral part of the lives of all ancient peoples. The myths of
The ancient Greeks were truly an amazing group of people. They were able to create things during their time that are still present and functioning today. Whether they were thinking, competing, or building they easily incorporated their culture into it. The Greeks changed the way that the western world thought and kept changing ideas and thought processes. They created the first schools and even wrote the some of the material that are being taught to students today. They created a political system that gave a voice to all of Greece’s citizens and brought people and ideas together. Without these pioneers of philosophy and democracy, there would be huge gaps in politics, education, and art that would still be present in 2018.
