There were a lot of people who were against joining the war but public opinion was turned towards joining the war mostly because of Germany’s military acts. The U.S. joined the war for economic reasons, and the economy was drastically changed by the war. The United States never wanted to join the war, but as time went on, the events that happened made it almost impossible not to join. The trouble for the U.S arose when the belligerent powers tried to stop supplies from reaching the enemy. Great Britain having the stronger navy was the first to declare a naval blockade against Germany, by mining the North Sea and seizing ships, including U.S ships – attempting to run the blockade. President Wilson protested British seizure of American Ships as a violation of a neutral nation’s right to freedom of the seas. But Germany’s supplies from America were getting cut off by the British warfare. And this was making Germany mad, that they were not getting supplies. Germany’s one hope for challenging British warfare at sea lay with a new naval weapon: the submarine. When Germany sank another five unarmed U.S merchant ships in March, Wilson was ready for …show more content…
When the men and boys started coming back from the war, some of them took back their jobs from Women, Mexicans, and African Americans. But others weren’t as lucky to get their jobs back; many didn’t have a job after the war, and were left to find another job: which was hard to do since the African Americans that had moved up from the south liked it in the north. The north was more tolerant towards African Americans and they offered more job diversification to them. “There were also a decrease in jobs because all the factories that shifted their business to make supplies, were suddenly out of work when the war ended, and a lot of people were out of jobs”(Mass
People have been debating over this topic for a long time. There are two good sides with reasons if the United States should have joined the World War II. In my opinion, the United States should have joined the World War II because the United States was being invaded by the Nazi because they were mad at America. The Nazi were also trying to rule all of Germany and we couldn't let that go and let them win right after they bombed the United States. This is why we should of joined World War II.
Since the 1870s, most of the major countries in Europe had been preparing for war with each other. The independent German kingdoms were unified in the 1870s and had quickly become the largest power on the continent. This triggered the the Holy Alliance between Prussia, Russia, and Austria. When Germany was united in 1871, Prussia became part of the new German nation. Russia also feared Germans threat and sought to ally itself with Great Britain, France, and even Germany itself for protection against other nations.
I feel like the U.S. should not have joined World War 1. I think the reasons we joined the war were not big enough reasons to send our soldiers to war over. I believe our reasons for joining the war are good reasons, but still not good enough to send people into battle to lose their lives for.
The United States was thrust into the WWI because Germany was trying to become a Global power to rule the world and was going to kill, destroy anything they could to become that evil entity. Germany was at war with Belgium, France, England and declared war on Russia trying to overtake the areas. Because Germany did not want these European countries to have anything to do with the anyone else they block the borders to prevent any exports or imports of goods and even sunk ships to prevent anything coming to shore. Another reason of why America had to participate in the war was because of America violating the “Sussex Pledge.” America supplied munitions and financial assets to the Allies, because of this Germany didn’t consider America “neutral” anymore. I believe America’s entry into the war was inevitable at this point. I believe
This gave the Americans a false sense of security, they thought even if Hitler took over Europe, as long as they don’t attack Hitler first, the U.S. will be left alone. However, the more land and resources Hitler conquers, the more power he will have, and the more power-hungry he will be. Also, the U.S. was still recovering from the Great Depression During the 1930s. Joining the war would cost huge amounts of money and resources which would greatly weaken the American economy even more. By not joining either side of the war, the American government saw an opportunity to profit from both the Allies and the Axis.
On December 7, 1941, the United States Of America decided to enter World War Two. On that same day, the Japanese had bombed Pearl Harbor which was the main reason the U.S. join the war. The day directly after that the U.S. join the Allied Powers which consisted of Britain, France, USSR, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, Greece, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, South Africa, and Yugoslavia. With the U.S. at war, they needed a way to motivate people so that they weren’t like Germany in World War One. Although during World War Two, the citizens of The U.S. were so impacted by the thought of war, so they helped soldiers and their government.
Many people joined the military to fight in the war. Men joined the military and women did too. Many people did not want the United States to go to war. They lost that. They United States participated in World War I.
By the time President Wilson asked Congress to declare war on Germany and its allies, the World War I had already been raging for four years (Doenecke, 2010, p. 1). Prior to this declaration of war, America had tried to remain neutral, while Germany, Autria-Hungary, the Ottoman Empire, and Bulgaria waged war against Great Britain, France, Russia, Italy, Rumania, and Japan. Many of these belligerents joined the war at various times during this four year period, so the war continued to expand during this four year period. Wilson and a significant percentage (49%) of the American public had wanted to stay out of this conflict as possible when it first started (Doenecke, 2010, p. 20), but a series of events forced America's hand.
But however Britain was the country America did the most trading with, and they had ships traveling over the seas all the time and that became a problem between Germany and the United States. And that is when Germany announced unlimited warfare in the Atlantic ocean against all ships in February 1915. The warning said this “Vessels flying the flag of great Britain, or any of her allies, are liable to destruction in those waters and that travelers sailing in the war zone on ships of Great Britain or her allies do so at their own risk” (historyinanhour.com) So all ships neutral or not if they entered the war zone around Britain, they would be attacked by the German U-boats and if they did decide to travel over the Atlantic in the war zone, they did it at their own risk because the warning was made clear. On the home front, the U.S. government desperately needed workers to fill newly created defense jobs and factory positions left open by soldiers who had left to fight. More than two million African Americans went to work for defense plants, and another two million joined the federal civil service. As these new opportunities drew more and more African Americans into cities, they opened the way for economic mobility.
Politics executed a part in America entering the war also. Propaganda from both sides determined America’s decision. President Wilson did not want to go to war, but when Teddy Roosevelt wanted to run for anther term, Wilson felt intimidated and declared that there would be a preparation program and a chance that America would go to war. By taking part in the war, America was validating itself as a world power.
In World War 1, the United States wanted to stay neutral but that later changed. President Woodrow Wilson of the U.S. wanted to keep America out of the war. However, the U.S. were forced to go into war because of Germany. Germany sunk the Lusitania, that carried american passengers, with a torpedo from their submarine. Therefore, Germany killed 128 american passengers which angered the United States. Woodrow Wilson gave a speech and stated his fourteen points to make peace and to put a stop to WW1.
then increased trade with the Allies, Britain and France, which gave them closer ties with the Allies forces. Secondly, the German navy launched a U-boat submarine, which torpedoed the British luxury liner Lusitania and killed 128 Americans in the process. Next, the U.S. intercepted a telegram in which Germany’s foreign secretary sent to the German minister in Mexico City. The telegram was urging Mexico to join the Central Powers in the war, and Germany promised to help Mexico recover Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona in return. This threatened the territorial integrity of the U.S. The final reason for U.S. involvement in the war was when U-boats started attacking American ships without warning. This forced President Wilson to ask for a declaration of war before a special session of Congress.
Another reason the U.S. joined World War II was because the Germans were sinking United States’ ships while taking supplies to England. The Germans were, also, using unrestricted submarine warfare even after they promised not to two years before that. The German submarines began shooting at United States war ships. At that point, the Germans declared war on the United States. Hitler declared war on the United States because he believed that it was an opportunity to be seized. He thought that it would be easy to knock the United States out of the war and continue on his dominance throughout the world. “He was convinced that the United States would soon beat him to the punch and declare war on Germany. The U.S. Navy was already attacking German U-boats, and Hitler didn’t care for Roosevelt because of his repeated verbal attacks against his Nazi ideology” (History.com). This states that Hitler did not like the United States and wanted to get rid of them and the rest of the Allies and continue to get what he wanted. It is clear why the United States should have entered the war and kept Germany from being the most dominant country in the world, although some disagree.
