However, many people feared the idea of a militia as they felt this was a too bold and harsh decision to go against the British army. Throughout Crisis No. 1, Paine connects

As a little girl, I would stand in front of my mother’s mirror, grab the television remote and pretend to deliver a speech before my stuffed animals. There was no question whenever I was asked, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” that I’d quickly respond with, “the president of the United States.” Although that childhood dream quickly diferred, as a college freshman at the age of 19, I would experience an event that may someday be written down in history books because it was not an average event of entertainment in seeing J. This was an event that have affected the lives of many and brought about more awareness of the oppression America
In the video from the Democratic National Convention of 1984 Jessie Jackson speaks to his audience while he ran for Presidency. The problem Jessie Jackson sought out to solve was the well being of his people and supporters. Jackson, as a former preacher, took the approach of what would be categorized as Black Preaching through his speech. Black Preaching is a style of speech represented in African American churches reflecting the persuasive narrations of the preacher. This connects greatly with one of the major problems in African American Rhetoric and African Diaspora. There is an enormous lack of representation in literature and study of the African American people and their culture. This same idea holds true when talking about representation in government.
The persuasion scenario our group choose to observe is the events that happen in United States of America in 19th century. It’s the President Abraham Lincoln famous Gettysburg address. One of the main points for Lincoln when he giving this speech is to persuade both union and confederate (two different sides during the civil war) citizens to come join together to create the new equal and justice United States. This persuasion speech made me known why many people saw him as the great man. He did not antagonize, nor did he show disrespect to the dead, even those who fought for the Confederacy (who is oppose to Lincoln administration). He treated them all as people of one country, and honored them all equally. Lincoln’s respect for every man
