Specific Instruction: Walking to you Purpose through OBEDIENCE!
Scripture: Joshua 6: 1-27
This particular scripture in the Bible illustrates what happens when you follow God’s instruction. God has given Joshua specific instruction to ensure his army’s victory over Jericho. They were instructed to march around the city, blow horns and do what I’m sure they though; really weird things. I could only imagine Joshua telling his troupes “Hey we need to go walk around this City a few times and then go back to our camps” I would imagine they were tired, with little food and energy. I would also assume they probably were a bit reluctant and did not see the need to walk around the city, blow horns etc. I sure they thought “why aren’t we preparing to fight? How is this helping us? This does not make any sense?” Although the instruction from God was a bit strange and uncomprehensive, still they obeyed and put their faith in the Lord, that he will fulfill his promise. Because they did what was told to him, they defeated a city that outnumbered the army of Israelites with more military resources. Everything that God said would come to pass, DID! Their obedience got them to victory!

How many times has God given you an illustration that you didn’t agree with or make sense? We miss so much knowing so little because of our desire to know TOO much. I am sure when you were young your parents told you to do something and your may have asked why and their reply may have been “Because I said so!” We HAVE TO start doing things simply because God SAID SO! PERIOD! How much better off would we be if we just did what God said do, even when we don’t understand? We live in a time where we have to know EVERY single thing. The reality is that we will NOT know everything and honestly, I thank GOD that I don’t know every corner to turn because I may miss some well deserve lessons along the
Now the Israelites went out to fight against the Philistines. The Israelites camped at Ebenezer, and the Philistines at Aphek. The Philistines deployed their forces to meet Israel, and as the battle spread, Israel was defeated by the Philistines, who killed about four thousand of them on the battlefield. When the soldiers returned to camp, the elders of Israel asked, “Why did Hashem let us get defeat ? Let us bring the ark of Hasham covenant from Shiloh, so that he may go with us and save us of our enemies.”
To fully grasp and understand the book of Joshua, it is important to take a look at the historical and cultural context, understand the literary context, evaluate the text, and find relevance in the passage.
The same aforementioned sentiments towards changing one's lives towards God’s intentions are likely even more difficult to overcome today. Many great conveniences exist for even the average person, such as air conditioning, cars, cell phones and televisions. A life without such things could easily be seen as unfathomable by many, and very few would be willing to part with
They did not need to actually defeat all of the land, rather, they conquered one area using brutality which led the surrounding areas to panic and surrender. While fear is one option that leads to obedience, compassion also works. Compassion comes from God, compassion must come from the wife to her husband, and compassion must be given to the servants. The Bible focuses on forgiveness of sins a great deal, and recognizes this as a compassionate act from God.
Dave workman said that, “ Our desires, our missions, have to be under Gods.” In other words if you feel that God is telling you to do something, you do what you think he wants you to do. Rather than doing what you think is going to help you or improve on your life. Maybe he is telling you that he needs you to go help someone, or maybe its something big like you need to go on a mission to spread the word of god. Whatever you think God wants you to do you should go out of your way to accomplish his needs and then you can do what you need to do.
Nobody was born with the knowledge that we have now, so in order to prosper as a student, a Christian, or a servant we must be willing to accept we are not equipped with all the knowledge and skills we need for eternity. As Christians, we must continually learn about God and His plan for our lives. As students, we must learn how to multiply and divide, so that we can go further in math to be fully-functioning adults in the future. As servants, we must develop new ways of serving others whether it be a new way of communication or a new trade such as building. This willingness allows a leader and servant to be adaptable and to be able to accomplish what needs to be
Joshua was excited and eager to show God his desire to complete the task of conquering the Promised Land. He sent some men to spy out the land of Ai. The commanders, full of enthusiasm over their battle at Jericho, recommended that they send only two or three thousand men. He agreed and the army left.
As the two gone by a shop, the man started to tell an event about God' task to a man named Moses. To test every person's belief on God. Because God want to know if there's still a loyalty within the people in this world. Then God's will has happened.
Their message of repentance unto the Lord or face destruction was received as well as the same message is today. Though foreign armies were conquering lands around Judea, the Israelites did not perceive their need for salvation, and did not fear God. In fact in light of the pluralistic culture of Jeremiah and Uriah’s day, many prophets were preaching good news in the name of god’s but only these two men are recorded as speaking for the Lord. I am not applying this to this week’s coursework to say that in a pluralistic culture we should all take the same approach as these men did in proclaiming damnation to all who will hear.
"Do as I do when we come to the camp," Gideon told his men. "When I blow my trumpet, blow your trumpets loud and clear, and say, 'The sword of the Lord and of Gideon!'"Quietly down the mountain crept Gideon and his men. In the valley below, everything was still, as the enemy slept. It was time for God's plan. It was time for a surprise the Midianites would never forget. In the middle of that quiet, sleepy night came the thundering sound of trumpets. The men smashed the pitchers loudly. Bright flaming light from the torches surrounded the enemy. Quickly the Midianites woke up to hear the Israelites shouting, "The sword of the Lord and of Gideon!"The Midianites were so surprised that they made a great mistake. They started to fight each other. Then they turned and ran in fear.God's surprise plan won. The Israelites were safe from the enemy just as God had promised. They did not even have to fight! The happy Israelites cheered Gideon. "Rule over us," they joyfully shouted. But Gideon knew it was God who won.God used Gideon, and a handful of men with trumpets, pitchers, and torches to chase away the people of Midian.Gideon answered the cheering people, "I shall not rule over you, but God

Evidence was present that Joshua experienced an obsession with a particular topic, showed limited awareness and enjoyment of other people, and has problems learning the art of communication (Hall,
One of the advantages was that they received the Word of God (3:2). This was a special revelation no revealed to any other people, above and beyond the revelation of creation and conscience. Just because the Jews did not believe God’s words, God is still true and faithful (3:3-4).
Because God gave man reasoning man must think and act. By thinking the correct way and acting upon reasoning God wants man to follow his plan. God gives each of his first creations jobs or professions that will help to create the society God longs for.
