Journal 2 Throughout my week I tend to spend a total of 14 hours per week in class, I do not have a job, I tend to spend anywhere from 3 to 5 hours with my family, I tend to spend 77 hours a week sleeping, and as far as other responsibilities with include but are not limited to; studying, working out, and working on my car, I tend to spend anywhere in between 50 to 60 hours. After I have done everything I have to do I am left with 12 hours. The rule of thumb is for every one hour in a class you must spend 3 hours studying, now I completely understand the importance of studying therefore I am devoting at the minimum 35 hours of studying a week, I understand that if I want to succeed in my classes then I need to study. The rule of thumb that
I began to fall behind and continued to stay behind in two of my classes. I started to skip many assignments because I did not manage my time well. My goal wasn’t reinforced because I didn’t read it before making a choice or evening trying to remember it. I realized that I was letting myself down and I wasn’t doing what I needed to do and that all my grades were slipping. I work twelve hour shifts that cause me to become very tired. I began to correct myself by staying up after I got off work and I made myself do two to three assignments before I was allowed to go to sleep. By staying awake after work I got to study more and with a clearer mind understood better, and gave myself a treat by relaxing
Similar to the study by (Author 2), a study by (Author 3) looked at time use and academic outcomes. Good use of time can be related to motivation, while academic outcomes can be seen as a students GPA. The study found that the number of hours studying was
My freshman year I joined many extracurricular activities, and some of my grades started to show it. Four and a half weeks in, I had a part of the school play, I was a marcher in the marching band show for that year, and had golf practice almost every day. Each day when I finally got home, I took a shower, and then went to sleep; hardly any studying was done. A quarter of the semester passed, and my grades were below par. After realizing how bad my grades actually were, I studied thirty minutes each day. I fit in 30 minutes after play practice; while I ate before
Creating a study plan and planning my time realistically I think could improve the effectiveness of my studying sessions. Also studying effectively I can improve on. Last week I talked about concentration and all the barriers in my life that effect my studying. I think those barriers decrease how effective my studying is. Therefore I want to go to the quiet study zone in the library at school as much as I can to hopefully get more out of my studying. In the Nurse Tim Student Success Six Pack video on test prep the speaker discussed short studying sessions to be highly effective. I tend to sit and study for hours rather than short times. Short study sessions are supposed to help to retain information better. I will try and implement short study
Hello Ms. Makewski I hope you're having a great day! It's your student Leslie from 5th period. I just had a couple of announcements and concerns about staying in your class. If you remember we had a talk not long ago whether I should stay in a AP class, or transfer to a regular class. Well I'm happy to say that I'm putting education first I told my sensei (karate chief instructor) two weeks ago that I will no longer be going for a short amount of time due to academics which he was very conclusively understandable with, But I still have my concerns. I understand that of course in college it's going to become more challenging and I don't want to make it sound like I'm making excuses, but I'm not sure if I can certainly handle your class. I mean,
7. How many hours do you spend doing homework and/or studying each day? Every year of high school I spend different hours for studying. I usually go to the library to finish my homework during lunch. I get home around 5:30 because I have a job after school. I begin my homework as soon as I get home and study as long as it takes me to understand the material. I plan on 1-2 hours per class, most assignments can be done less than 75 minutes.
CLASS is the most recent failure at the federal level to create a national program that provides long-term care insurance. The ACA attempted to work around the fact by making CLASS a voluntary and self-sustaining program under difficult political constraints, policymakers tried to walk a narrow line; they aimed to offer a substantial benefit. CLASS would have been unsustainable and would still have left beneficiaries exposed to substantial costs. One positive note, CLASS brought long-term care back onto the federal policy agenda after a 20 years absence, serving as an important reminder that the nation's current to financing long-term care is adequate.
A Critique of Peter Cappelli’s “Why Focusing Too Narrowly in College Could Backfire” In Peter Cappelli’s “Why Focusing Too Narrowly in College Could Backfire” he wants to focus on getting a job after college graduation and how parents can help to guide their children. This article focuses on prospective college students and their parents warning them about the dangers of college. This is a well-organized article with perfect language usage. Unfortunately it lacks enough hard evidence to make a truly great article but it accomplishes the main goal of the paper.
Conducting a time analysis was a pretty eye opening experience for me. I analyzed my time from Saturday 6/15 through Friday 6/21. As a family man, the fact that I spend a great deal of my time, over half, during the course of a week working and sleeping is somewhat unsettling (see Figure 1 – Weekly Time Analysis). I spend an average of 55 hours per week working, a minimum of 11 hours each day, 5 days a week. I slept approximately 5-6 hours per night, a total of 40 hours for the week. The combination of the two is about 56.5% of my week’s time. Studying took up around 20 hours or approximately 12 %. I spent 7 hours in my car during the week, which was to and from work for the most part.
When I started attending Lone Star last year after graduating high school it was definitely a game changer. I felt I would be more prepared because I had taken dual credit and advance placement classes however, that was not the case. I had to change the way I studied and I now employ several studying styles and tip/tricks to help me truly get the most out of every course I taken whether it be of my interest or one that is required but does not tickle my fancy. A few that the book mentioned that have changed the way I study and learn are incorporating studying in my daily routine, getting a tutor, and over learning the material. I quickly got into the habit of delegating time to studying at home for each class by setting aside blocks of time
I can put in a good amount of hours on weekdays but can do a lot more on weekends. I can dedicate 3-6 hours during school days depending on my workload from my classes, and 6-12 hours during weekends depending on family plans.
Students who perform at top level with higher grades typically spend more time preparing and studying for class. (GCU, Time management webinar). I have reviewed my time management worksheet and realized that I need to make some adjustments to my daily schedule and devote more time to studying.
Time management is essential in earning our education as adult learners. I know that with life we have many obstacles that can arise at any given moment. “Time management can be a common problem for any student. But throw work, children and social activities in the mix, and the web of daily responsibilities becomes even more intricately woven.” (Rasmussen College, 6 Time Management Tips for College Students, 2014) I plan on setting aside at least a couple of hours each day in order to read my assignment and make a plan as how to finish my work on time. I understand that at times I may not be able to do this, but this is my goal. As discussed in the the “Successful study strategies for non-traditional adult learners” (Columbia College) it
For this goal has been a challenge, but I have been studying an average of 3 hours per day, maintaining my GPA high, I believe I have a 3.0 GPA or higher, I have been doing all my homework and assignments for every class. Also I wanted to manage my time effectively in academic work and extracurricular activities. I believe I am doing good in this one because with my WIU planner and the calendar on my cell phone I schedule everything and I always do the things on time, I haven’t miss any class yet, I am always on
From the Time Management Calendar assignment, I realized a lot of things about the way that I spend my time. I spent an abundant time doing homework, and I stay up entirely too late. Living a happy, healthy life is all about learning to balance schoolwork, a social life, stress relief, and somehow, getting plenty of sleep. I feel that for me to be successful in college, I need to spend more time on myself, including physical activity and other means of stress relief, and designating more time for sleep.
