I am unique in what I offer to JSA cabinet because I am very passionate about debate and the importance of creating conversations and dialogue in high school students. My experiences with the Dartmouth Debate Institutions allowed me to become familiar with policy and parliamentary debate. I participated in workshops that strengthened my fundamentals and learned the different types of debate. Without my experiences with JSA, I don’t think I would have participated and gotten as much as much as I did out of it. Additionally, my experiences with the Debate club and talking to Emily at school allows me to also become familiar with the JSA format of debate. Since policy, parliamentary, and JSA debate formats all differ vastly from each other, I
About me: Growing up in Miami Beach, Florida, I’ve had a different perspective on demographic issues, the political process, and local politics than most. Currently, I am a junior at Miami Beach Senior High School where I am an avid participant in the National Speech and Debate Association, my school’s Student Government Association (SGA), and United States Grant Committee. Something different about me is that earlier this year I started a political action committee (PAC) called Teens for Teens. As the youngest director of a PAC in the country, I have definitely had some interesting experiences that other 16 year old students don't experience too often.
When I was nine I told my mother I was going to be the first female Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court, and since then my passion for law and politics has only grown. I enjoy being in thick of things and using my energy to move ideas forward. I love persuading others on topics that I see will make our community better for all of us. Participating in activities and events such as Buckeye Girls State, and the National Speech and Debate tournament have broaden my horizons immensely. However, something not listed on the resume is the conversations that happen outside of the rounds, where people come together to discuss different issues because it excites them. I love the political process, it drives the activities I do, the classes
If any class I’m taking requires a speech that must be presented in front of others, I immediately dread the due date for that assignment. While the student, whose turn is before mine, is reciting his or her speech, I cannot help but feel my heart race and the palms of my hands begin to sweat. No matter how many times I take a deep breath and tell myself to relax, I still feel anxious. My anxiety towards public speaking has been happening to me since as long as I can remember. I was eager to take the PRPSA questionnaire to determine where on the scale my level of anxiety towards public speaking falls. To my expectations, my results for the questionnaire, a 98, was right where I figured it would be. I found my score to be accurate because yes,
Because truth contains the power to bring our nation together, prosperity to our citizens, and purpose to our role as a nation, I seek to let it be my guide in policy. As I compete in Congressional Debate, I draft legislation that knows no party, with policy that adjusts to the current geopolitical landscape. True conservatism is not exhaustive conservative policy. True conservatism responds to the voice of the nation at that time. One day after debate, one of my opponents commended me for flexibility and thoughtfulness in debate. That commendation means more to me than any first place award. Participating in Congressional Debate is one of the most fulfilling parts of my life. In the debate chamber, I speak not for points or awards, but to guide people to truth. I speak not always to persuade or convince, but to share perspectives that create the kind of dynamic existence President Coolidge achieved in his life, constant examination of policy for his constituents. My desire is that my speeches do not fool others into supporting one policy over another. My desire is to share policy options, only for the most effective to be chosen at the end of the round. This is not always the policy on which behalf I spoke – dynamic
I reviewed the text and the video. I was impressed by many points made in them. I liked that they paired each competency with a set of knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to perform the job the best possible way and meet the goal to improve the quality and safety of the healthcare systems (http://qsen.org/about-qsen/project-overview/). That way if there is insufficiency in one or another category, it can be addressed in timely manner and positive changes implemented. It is also great that they implemented the new knowledge first in the nursing schools, so that the new nurses start on the “right track” and be trained properly in the innovative ways of care. It is also great that the school were given the opportunity and the place (QSEN.org) to exchange experiences and suggestions for teaching and improving the program.
He further suggests customized courses for ministers such as agenda setting, decision-making and policy analysis be made available. He argues selected faculty must have credibility, presentation skills, and the ability to deal with controversy in order to promote an effective learning environment. Thomas states the school of government will allow individuals to be successful in elected public office by developing their intelligence, judgement and leadership skills. He believes today’s society needs to invest in the development of political leaders so not only the disillusionment that exists today is eliminated, but the integrity and civility of public life remains intact. Thomas suggests to the readers of the Canadian Parliamentary Review that educational opportunities need to be created for political leaders in order to develop their skills and reach their full potential. Through the development of government leaders citizens will feel more confident in their abilities and a relationship of trust will be
Before debate, I was siloed in my thinking: LeBron is better than Kobe, Fruit Loops were tastier than Fruity Pebbles, and Drake was already better than Kanye. Back then I was not necessarily an opinionated person, yet I was staunch in my ways. Although I only joined debate because my all my friends were in it, the forum gave me a space to form my own opinions and understand societal issues more clearly. Interacting within the debate community has allowed me to interface with people from different backgrounds and with unique opinions over the status quo; the educational benefits from debate have allowed me to grow from a close-minded, narrow thinking adolescent into a young adult who understands structural obstacles that disadvantaged members of society combat, and how I can use my space to empower real change.
I updated client’s identification number given to the clients by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) in the profile, write down my questions and discussed it with my supervisor the reason the numbers are being updated from time to time.
This reflection paper focuses on student learning outcome number four (current research findings regarding family and caregiver stress) and the chronic illness of bronchiectasis and its effects on the caregiver, including role stress and strain.
I plan on contributing to the Ujamaa, affectionately referred to as UJ, community mission by involving myself in UJ events and celebrations such as the Black History Month Celebration and the State of Black America Conference, serve another term on the Hall Council, and also act as a support network for first-year Ujamites. UJ has given so much to me over the course of my freshman year that I feel it is necessary to share what I have gained from being a member of UJ to help maintain its cohesive community.
In my sophomore year of highschool, I joined the policy debate club. Policy debate was an intensive academic activity where teams of two would engage in discussions on the best government 's policy to enact. There would be two teams in each debate round: affirmative or negative. The affirmative would have to propose a policy that the U.S federal government should enact based on their constructed advantages for implementation. After that speech, the negative team would have to make arguments, for examples, kritiks, disadvantages, and counterplans, to refute the implementation of the plan. Throughout an almost two hour debate round, both teams will try to speak almost 500 words per minute in order to respond to arguments. As one can imagine, debate is fast paced activity that boils down to which team can best defend their arguments. Within in this debate round, there would be a judge to decide the winner.
Over the next three semesters, I will be a part of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and the Gators Walk for the Children’s Heart Foundation. I will also be an AMSA director and will be employed by the University of Florida Call Center.
I hope you are doing well, and I hear the new practice is starting very well. I don't know if you remember me, I am a former student of yours from your last exercise science class at Ohio State. I am graduating in December with my BS in HPNES, and was curious about the opportunities at UAPPC. I have looked through the website and talked with Emily Martini about the work you and your wife are doing. It seems very innovative and promising. I'm you have the same enthusiasm for your practice as you had for teaching. I know you mentioned in your last class that you were looking for students after graduation to help out with this practice. If you have any current or future opportunities that are or will be available I am eager to discuss them with
My experience working with JSF and the Celebration Company is wonderful. My experiences from working with them means so much to me because I have been working with them for so long, and when ever I do work with them, I feel a greater connection to my community. Volunteering with individuals with disabilities is very meaningful, because I want them to feel apart of the community like I do. Volunteering makes everyone feel like one big community no matter our differences, which is why working with the Celebration Company means so much to me. The Honey-less honey cakes gives people the opportunity to go and connect with other Jews in the community in a normal setting. Whenever I volunteer I feel like I have made others feel as if they are in the
Last Thursday, March 31, I attended the State HOSA Leadership Conference at the Sanford Pentagon. Our chapter has 118 members and is the largest in the state. We did the following: attended seminars, competed in events, tours, and learned more about health professions. There was a few other schools that attended. After dinner on the first day, we went back to the Pentagon to have a dance. We were taught different dances and pushed outside of our comfort zones. During one of the dances you had to partner up with someone. Since we were the biggest chapter, some people felt uncomfortable and didn't dance with anyone. I saw it as an opportunity to get to know new people. I went over and talked to some girls from other schools and made the situation
