Deathly Afraid? More Like Afraid of Death
“Fear is quite powerful because it grabs a hold of us and prevents us from speaking openly,” says Erin Coriell (Coriell). Fear overcomes us and we submit to it. Everyone has a fear and in some cases, the fear can often negatively impact the person’s every day to day life (FearOf. net.). Often she or he will refuse to leave the home because of this fear (FearOf.net.). Everyone has their own point of view on every fear there is. What would you do if someone said that they had the fear of death? Being deathly afraid is not the same as being afraid of death, is it? Should we really be afraid of what is to come? Few people are actually able to talk about it, to show their views of death. Edgar Allen Poe and Geoffrey Chaucer willingly showed the world the thoughts that they had.

They go on a journey and on this journey, they meet an old man who tells them about death being close by. These three men follow his directions and then they end up turning on each other. They feared death so much and yet, they turned on each other. Death makes people do things that they would not normally do. They tried to beat death, to kill death. All that they really did was greet death with open arms. They planned on killing the others because they were full of greed and wanted the money to themselves. Greed is one of many things that can lead to the death of
In the play The Tragedy of Julius Caesar the main character, Brutus, experiences many things that lead him to become a tragic hero. From the interactions between Cassius and Brutus, the two characters contract each other, Brutus’s character develops into a tragic hero, and the plot advances and a theme is also created.
Some of us come to term with the reality that everything in life is temporary, and that one day we will all die. But sometimes people face hard time facing the reality of death because is never easy to accept not breathing one day. Some people fear for a good reason because once someone dies there is no coming back and not knowing what happens in the afterlife makes dying even more painful. The sad thing about dying is that one never knows when they will die, which is why someone people hate thinking about dying because it makes them overthink when they will die. Everyone face the reality of death differently
Death is an unknown place that people tend to avoid because of the fear that surrounds it. But, there should be fear or anxiety that has built up because being in a strange place will definitely add anxiety and fear to a person. Ron Scranton confirms this idea by saying. “learning how to die isn’t easy… I was terrified by the idea”. From the time when he was in the army, he had no choice but to face the idea of death. What seems to scare individuals the most is the thought and process
Fear of the unknown can be a fear of the dark or fear of what happens after we die. Children often experience fear of the dark typically because they imagined a danger like a monster that may be in the room but they cannot see inside to assure them that their perceived danger is absent. This fear of the unknown could result in the child hiding under his/her blankets or running to another family member’s room for safety. Similarly, people fear what happens when they die because there is no certainty other than someone’s faith or belief. Even being a person who experienced near death, I could not relieve someone’s fear by explaining that my experience was mind-blowing and amazing. Not only could their experience be different, but I do not know anything about what would have happened next.
In the play Julius Caesar, there is one tragic hero. Many people question who is the actual tragic hero. Know that a tragic hero is a hero with many good qualities but one tragic flaw that leads to their inevitable doom. People question whether Brutus is the tragic hero or if Caesar is the tragic hero. To end all arguments, the tragic hero of the play Julius Caesar is Caesar. He gave money to roman citizens in his will, but and his tragic flaw of being too ambitious that leads to his death of being stabbed 33 times.
Humans typically want to avoid the subject of death so when they read horror or other scenarios about people dying they face their fears of death. In “Strawberry Spring”, by Stephen King, there was a college student who had “her throat cut from ear to ear”(1). While reading this humans our facing their fears on the subject of death. Having fears is part of the Human Condition and is completely normal. Even though these fears are normal, most people still try to face them and horror is a way to do that.
The way I percieve death is that it is absoulute and no living thing can ever escape it. Nor should we be afraid of death it is simply a
The idea of death appears to be a rather taboo topic depending on the context. At least, for a majority of society. The photo chosen to represent the fear of death happen to exhibit two shadows: one is a hand while the other is a puppet attempting to escape the hand that is death “Everyone knows they're going to die, but no one believes it,” (Album 80) Morrie declares as he preaches how people should be prepared to die as they do not know when their final moment will come. If you're prepared, you will live your life to the fullest. As opposed to living in fear and not accepting the idea. Admittedly, death has that has left myself afraid and clueless. Being introduced to always be prepared to die has opened up my eyes, and others should receive from this lesson. It could possibly increase the overall quality of life, instead of hiding under the phobia. Morrie's lesson on death has definitely struck a cord, and, similar to the aging lesson, I hope I remember this lesson as time passes. Death should not necessarily be something to avoid, it should be accepted and
During World War II over 60 million Japanese war captives were killed while another half a million died during the holocaust happening at the same time. Perseverance was a inexorable theme in Night, Julius Caesar, and Unbroken. According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, the definition of perseverance is the continued effort to do or achieve something despite difficulties, failure, or opposition. Perseverance is being in an insular place while having to maintain a stoic and viable attitude even though people are forcing to work nonstop. Furthermore, perseverance is the abundance of courage and will to survive while people are doing everything in their power to tear the humanity away from the working.
The plethora of effort used to maintain a mob of many people is tremendous. This is displayed in The Tragedy Of Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare through the portrayal of the characters of Julius Caesar and Brutus. Caesar and Brutus both showed how fear is better for leadership than love. If a leader is feared, their rule will be more successful because it is easier to rule with set consequences.
The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.” (Mark Twain). This quote from the famous American writer is the basis for what became one of the hardest ideas to comprehend, death. Death has always been a complex term, causing one to struggle with what the true definition is. It is also hard to wrap your mind around what does it truly mean to die. These are the questions we long for the answer. Whether we acknowledge it or not, death has always been feared by many. Death remains an impossible question, one that has been unexplained since beginning of time. Even though dying is a natural, we as a human race still fear it. What can be done to defeat this never-ending battle? According to Montaigne’s “To Philosophize is to Learn to Die” and Cory Taylor’s “Questions for Me About Dying” we can overcome this by living to the fullest, living with no regrets, living a legacy, and lastly not fearing the inevitable. If you want to conquer the question of life, live in the moment.
Caesar or Brutus? Many people think that the tragic hero in Julius Caesar is Caesar, only because the title of the play. The real tragic hero is Marcus Brutus. There are many traits you can have to be a tragic hero, Brutus has at least three of them. In WIlliam Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar, it is shown that Brutus is the tragic hero because he has noble stature, he has a tragic flaw, and free choice.
Many people seem to fear death, but philosophers such as Socrates and Epicurus would argue that one has no reason to fear it. Socrates sees death as a blessing to be wished for if death is either nothingness or a relocation of the soul, whereas Epicurus argues that one shouldn't worry themselves about death since, once we are gone, death is annihilation which is neither good nor bad. Epicurus believes that death itself is a total lack of perception, wherein there is no pleasure or pain. I agree with Epicurus because Socrates doesn't give a sound argument for death as a blessing, whereas Epicurus' argument is cogent. I would also argue personally that death is not something to be feared because, like Epicurus, I see no sufficient evidence
When people ponder death they wonder about the unknown with trepidation. As a young man, William Cullen Bryant wrote the "Thanatopsis." His thoughts progress from the fear of death to the acceptance of the event. People should not fear death because everyone dies and becomes a part of nature.
Death is a familiar thing to most of us, whether you’ve had a loved one pass or have seen a lot of pain. The reason I picked this topic is because of all the ways and things that can happen, in our lifetime, what is the most scariest thing people have trouble with and death popped into my head. I asked the question, ‘Are you afraid of dying?’ My belief was that the youth would be less likely to be fearful of dying compared to the older populations I interview and researched. I believed that the youth would see it as a long time away and would be more focused with living rather than focusing on something they can’t control. I believe that the elderly would have a bigger problem with death because of all the problems that come with old age. As you age everything becomes closer and is more realistic.
