June's Ethical Decision-Making Model

June is obtaining great training that is difficult to buy. She is getting to see a real life example of what she needs to strive to not be like. And, she is getting a chance to filter all this through her ethical decision-making model and risk management toolkit that she hopefully created in one of her masters classes.

We must remember that June is a student with no credibility and Freda has been a counselor for 20 years. Freda has successfully made it this far with plenty of supervision along the way. Freda is the reflection of her past. Do we need to go on a witch hunt to the past and see what we can dig up?

Perhaps Freda agrees with Welfel and emotionally responded her frustrations because she doesn’t agree with this method. Because the term diagnosis emcompases more than the medical model expressed in the DSM, Freda might have a different and approved method that June isn’t privy to know. Perhaps a more sound relationship between the two could point this out. Again, I don’t like to jump to conclusions without valid facts. Would you want me jumping to conclusions as a pilot and making a mistake because I was emotional versus logical and practical? Welfel said that diagnosing is one of the most influential activities in which a professional engages and applying a diagnosis name to clients’ problems can powerfully affect many aspects of their functioning such as self-esteem, career opportunities, eligibility for insurance, vulnerability to rejection and ridicule by others, and educational placement (Welfel, 2016). They were all related to inappropriate behavior involving alcohol or a sexual relationship. Although many suspected that the boss was acting unethically, no one reported him. Why? Maybe fear? What if one reported someone without facts then things could get real awkward? Despite the loopholes and gaps in the system, unethical behavior can’t go on forever. Somewhere along the line, the person acting unethically will place themselves in the limelight without any coworker having to report them. The best defense against unethical behavior from a boss is to be as ethical as you can be in your daily
