The continued growth of social media has explicitly put us, the user, in a position to be highly exposed to the availability of information in an instantaneous manner. As a result, we have the tendency to aimlessly click through links and news posts that are displayed on the social media websites. From posts of your neighbor’s dog to your uncle’s crazy night in town, there are interesting subjects that face your social media timeline, none more interesting than the “personality” quizzes that promise reliable/accurate results. Upon taking these quizzes, you may notice that the questions it prompts present a very repetitive and generalized feel. The difference between the Jung Typology test and the Big Five test distributed in class are the variables that each test evaluates. Within the variables tested, the Jung test evaluated eight different characteristics (Extraversion/Introversion, Sensing/Intuition, Thinking/Feeling, Judging/Perceiving) while the Big Five test calculated five different traits (Extroversion, Agreeableness, Conscientious, Neuroticism, Openness to Experience). Upon taking/completion of the Big Five test, I saw that my scores were very similar to the scores I received on the Jung test. Levels of introversion outweighed extroversion, and new traits such as Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, Neuroticism, and Openness to Experience were scored above average. In terms of similarity, the traits of both tests seem to cohere to one another resulting in promising results. Though the Jung test may have more testable traits, I believe that the Jung test and the Big Five test lie on the same spectrum in terms of producing convincing
